Watch on 3SpeakThe first time that I met one of these dudes who i now know to be a lacewing fly larva was 24ish years ago. He was crawling on a lamp.. with a pile of dust and dirt and bits of other dead bugs, heaped on his back. WHY? camo, I guessed. These ones who I've been coming across recently prefer bits of lichen. In the thumbnail image to this video is a different one from that in the video The first of three I've seen here in Paraguay. The lichen gave me better search terms than "bugs who pile dustballs on their heads" And funny, as I am a bit obsessed with what I know as "periwinkles," are also lacewing larvae who live in the water...and I search for them always, in every stream and riverbank. Them, I haven't come across in Paraguay YET. I will do my best to get better fotos and videos of these guys when I can. They move surprisingly fast for such tiny little boogars with such big loads on their backs

Watch on 3SpeakThis morning was chilly. I didn't want to get out of bed. Mind, me staying in bed late is until 7 or maybe even 8 am; that's super late. This brain turns on by 4. I often wait for the roos to roo as my permission to get up and go, when I'm happy and it's not cold. The madrugada is my favorite...so it's all good...getting to watch the sunrise. Peace and quiet incomparable. First birds singing. Nightbugs going to bed. Lovey has always been very tranquil and sweet in the early morning and let me put him back on his rope or his dog-run with ease, once I started implementing nights of freedom. I wanted him free at night for his protection most of all. If somebody is going to rob the house, round these parts, even the police will tell you it is smarter to have your dog sleep inside... because they will feed your dog poison and there goes the protection of a guard dog and if you give a crap, your best friend and family member. Thus, obviously, being tied up is even worse. Lovey will not sleep inside. He pees on my refrigerator and front door, when he's allowed in for a moment and jumped out the window when I closed the door. I am not worried about him accepting food that strangers would toss tho. He would stalk them sneak up behind them and rip their throat out first. Lovey's no fool and he is well fed to boot. Anyhow, the fears have been numerous. I was told he couldn't be off because he would: kill chickens, chase motorcycles and cars, kill Lobinho (which he did seem to want to do), maybe kill children and other people. Well, today I just felt like it would be okay. So I stayed in bed. By the time I got up, he was running and playing and hearing me open my windows, Lobinho came over and the two were playing and running and joyous with Lila also and even the little dude from next door came to play. I have so much renewed hope and joy today. Please understand, I was afraid that I might need to put this dude to sleep. I can NOT correct him in a firm voice even. He is positive reinforcement ONLY. Le encanta jugar en el barro y por suerte también le encanta bañarse muchas veces al día cuando hace calor...básicamente en cualquier momento que pueda tener acceso al agua. Lila es super inteligente e incluso con mis limitadas habilidades y esfuerzos de adiestramiento, es absolutamente asombrosa, por ejemplo ayudándome a meter a las gallinas en su casa.
