I came across this gathering one day when I was hiking near a lake. Through the trees, I saw people dressed in medieval outfits. The ladies had long extravagant dresses and fancy braided hair. The gentlemen wore outfits resembling characters from fantasy lore. One particular participant looked like a mighty warrior with a thick beard, leather strappings, and I think he had a couple of cool axes or swords. The children ran around dressed in all manner of colourful customs resembling fairies. It did look like a wholesome family gathering and was nice to see.

Then Saturday night arrived, and we all met at the assigned secret location and waited for the rented bus to arrive.

What is the Tao? This question vexed practitioners in ancient China. They finally decided that the Tao was unknowable and ungraspable by the human ABC neural processor. The thing about this Tao is that one cannot experience it directly in all its glory but can only catch glimpses of it here and there as it flows upon material reality. Through various techniques, Taoists could experience the force more directly, without the symbolic monkey-filters of the rational mind. They also sought to experience the Tao through interaction with the natural world. Some Taoists believed that in the movement of the clouds or swaying of leaves in the wind, for instance, one could see the movement of the underlying mystic force that they called the Tao.

Although my eyes saw the ship gliding across the vegetation, I knew that the ship was simply floating along the ocean that lay on the other side. A lot of what we "know" about the world is actually not supported by direct perceptual evidence we experience with our senses. The brain is a master at creating illusions like object permanence
