Why do I this to myself? I thought as I entered the water walking backwards with the flippers on. This was the second time in the trip that I found myself swimming unknown waters. If you’ve read my previous post in which I dove into the sea from a boat for some snorkeling kicks, then you know that I’m not really much of a swimmer. But having traveled miles to warm tropical seas with an underwater camera, I kind of felt committed to jump again and look for the great beasts that lurked in their depths.

I was walking along this neighbourhood with nice gardens the other day when I saw a flower peeking through a crack under the sloped retaining wall along the sidewalk. Usually, sturdy flowers like dandelions can be found in those tight spaces in the streets. In this case, it was fancier than that. From what I could find, it appears to be a Gazania rigens, or treasure flower, which according to its Wikipedia page, is native to southern Africa. So far from home!

“You! You’re demon!” the woman said pointing at me. “Somebody catch him, he’s a horrible monster.”Her friends laughed and raised their drinks in the noisy crowded atmosphere.She continued harassing me and calling me all sorts of names.

I haven't seen this small statue before, so I took the opportunity to take a shot. It was about 18 inches tall and when viewed from behind, its wrench seemed to perfectly align with the ray gun installation in the distance. I don't know if this was done deliberately, but it was fun to discover.

Canada is a relatively young country, even though its history reaches far beyond the mists of recorded time. By the 19th century, the east coast was settled, and there were a few outposts in the west coast, but the region was generally isolated by land from the rest of the confederation. To consolidate that union of east to west, a twin steel railway was constructed across the continent to the province of British Columbia. The first train arrived from Montreal at the terminus in the city of Port Moody on July 4, 1886.

Imagine this scenario. It's afternoon, and you board a boat in the historic port of an ancient city in the Caribbean, then you sail overnight to another port in another ancient city, where you arrive the next day. The boat has all the amenities you could want including food, drink, and lodging. In a private cabin, you can watch the sunset and spend the starry night then wake up to the majestic views of the Atlantic at sunrise as the boat glides into the old port.
