Hi Ho Hiveans, Lucky to have had some spare time this weekend to get out for a Light Painting adventure. As all nocturnal photographers will know, it's a challenge at this time of year to create Light Painted images in the open air, as it doesn't get fully dark until 11pm! The session can turn into a very late night or I might say very early morning! Arriving home at 4.30am has me trying to make it through the next day without falling asleep. All good fun. Mid-January 2016Steps To Sherborn Old Castle Sherborne Old Castle is a 12th-century castle built by the Bishop of Salisbury. The castle was later seized by the Crown and was briefly the home of Sir Walter Raleigh. The castle was besieged by Parliament during the Civil War and subsequently slighted to prevent further use. These 3 images were shot at our 1st visit to these brilliant ruins and as you will see we weren't too worried about being seen. However, I visited a few years later with Phill Fisher and was told to "get the fuck out" by the local farmer who marched us off the site never to return. Crown Of Wire As I mentioned, we weren't very discreet during our 1st visit, I'm surprised we weren't caught that time. Love spinning wire wool but it does get a little boring unless you have a friend with mild pyromania, then it gets exciting! ![Divider 5.png](

Hi Ho Hiveans, Another week without any Light Painting at all. The short nights at this time of year will test any hardened nocturnal photographer and the patience required to wait to start until about 11pm is more than I have got! It's okay on nights where the next day isn't a work day and sometimes if I'm camping out near the location it can be an adventure to take shots until about 3.30am when it becomes too bright outside to get an exposure longer than 30 seconds, but this week was too busy to plan a late outing. Mixed but warm weather last weekend was welcome after a mini heat wave in the week. My wife and I traveled to South Devon as we had been invited to a private showing of my Brother in-law's Contemporary Art installations at the Devon Sculpture Park at Mamhead.

Hi Ho Hivers, Another week without any Light Painting at all, apart from fixing and refurbishing a couple of old LP tools. It was good weather last weekend, so as I mentioned in my last post, I went out into the countryside with a friend and had a great time wild camping in our hammocks. The woodland was dense enough to have a small fire to boil water for coffee and also kept the insects away. I got over halfway to completing carving a bushcraft spoon, but my mate ran out of plasters and I can now confirm my camp knife is very sharp! #mora

Hi Ho Hiveans, Hoping that you've all been enjoying yerseles in the great outdoors with this spell of better weather that we've been having the past two weeks. I am planning another chillaxing camera-free hammock camping trip this weekend, just time to relax and maybe I'll craft a spoon! 😉

Hi Ho Hivers, I didn't get up to any Light Painting this weekend as the weather was good to go out with my mate and get some chill time, hammock camping in some old woodland. I did manage to get out on Monday night (uhmmm a worknight!) to meet up with another photographer who had found an amazing woodland that was carpeted in Bluebells as far as the eye could see, very generous of him to show me this undisturbed spot. I have only used fireworks a handful of times in my LP shots as they can be a little unpredictable. Wire wool, sparklers and cake fountains and fire can be a lot of fun but again a lot of consideration has to be given to the environment you are in. Fireworks, I think are best in the hands of professionals but are also a lot of fun. So here's some shots from firework displays in Poole and Bournemouth. Oh, and a shot of Poole's Twin Sails Bridge. Another great subject matter is the plethora of Pre-historic sites scattering the UK, almost all of which are accessible 24hrs a day. Perfect for a Light Painting session. B & W. West Kennet Long Barrow (Pre-Historic Chambered Burial Mound)May 2015 West Kennet Long Barrow is located in a field in Wiltshire UK just a short walk from the A4. One of the largest, most impressive and most accessible Neolithic chambered tombs in Britain. Built in around 3650 BC, it was used for a short time as a burial chamber, nearly 50 people being buried here before the chambers were blocked. Surrounded by farmland and many other Pre-historic sites in the near vicinity, like Avebury Stone Circle and Silbury Hill. Is always worth a visit and admission is free!
