A few days ago on one of my trips to the supermarket I came across a brand of coffee that I had not tried for a long time. I asked my wife if she remembered the last time we had tasted that coffee “Fama de America” and she said no, but that it must have been a long time ago.
In the times of my childhood and youth “Fama de America” coffee was one of the most purchased coffees in my family, I remember that when they brought the bags from the market the children of the house when they saw the packaging of the coffee we immediately sang the slogan of the brand: “By the aroma I know it, Fama de America the best coffee”. In those years it was common to hear this slogan on radio stations as well as on TV. This coffee was one of the most consumed in the country.

Reviewing the packaging I found a piece of information that caught my attention, it says that the brand has been in the market since 1887. However, the information obtained on the internet says that it began to be sold in 1927 in the city of Caracas. On the back of the packaging it says that the coffee is produced in two plants, one in Caracas and the other in Valencia, it also specifies that it is of Arabica type, but it does not say from which part of the country the beans come from.
I did not get any further information on the internet. It does not cease to call my attention the little information that is available on the internet about the majority of Venezuelan coffee brands.
As happened with the other traditional coffee brands, this company was intervened and expropriated by the government at the beginning of the 21st century. I could not find details of its current situation.

Unlike other more recent brands this coffee, which has a tradition of almost a hundred years, has not been distinguished with the Gourmet qualification, this has caused me a lot of curiosity because in reality the coffee is quite good.
To carry out the tests I always buy the smallest presentation that was in the supermarket, in this case the 250 grams package, fifty grams more than the packages of most of the other brands, which come in bags of 200 grams. The price is 3$, slightly higher than other brands, but of course, it has more quantity.
For the first test I took a measure of coffee for two cups of water, the color of the ground beans was less dark than other brands I have tried, this is probably because the roasting process is medium term.

When the water began to boil the intense aroma could be felt throughout the kitchen. Every time this happens I feel that the experience is going to be pleasant. A coffee that does not give off aroma is difficult to leave a good taste.
When tasting hot and cold coffee I could not appreciate any variation in the level of acidity. I have already commented on other occasions that good coffee does not change its acidity whether it is hot or cold.
When adding sugar and milk the result was also very pleasant, the milk helped to highlight the unique touch of flavor that the coffee provides.

With the amount of coffee used for the test I was able to obtain a very strong coffee, which makes it a very good coffee. If you like milder coffee you should use less than the usual amount.
The truth is that I really enjoyed trying this Fama de America coffee again. I do not know if it is distributed nationally. If you don't know it, try to give it a try, you might find it as pleasant as I did.
Thank you for your time.
