I have started wondering since I've seen social media literally overrun by AI images of people tarting themselves up into into what they want the world to see.Image sourceI see you now, you slightly overweight, tired mother trying to portray yourself to the world as a slender goddess, a tree fairy or some kind of science fiction lizard creature with golden sparkled scales. I feel your dissatisfaction with your current life, current looks and what you think your future holds.
Roselle (botanically Hibiscus sabdariffa) is the dried calyx of a variety of hibiscus flower. What's a calyx? It's the bottom part of the flower, after the bloom is spent and the petals fall off. Sort of like a rosehip. Native to Central and West Africa, it thrives in Thailand (and many countries) and has many other colloquial names, including Florida Cranberry, Red Sorrel or Jamaican Sorrel. In Thai, we call it กระเจี๊ยบ, Grajiab Daeng.
For the first time in 22 years, I'm back in the mothership - the Netherlands, country of my birth - for Christmas. Last time I was here was Christmas 1999, ready for the big Y2K disaster that wasn't. Yes, it snowed on Christmas morning then and I was enthralled with the picture-postcard gezelligheit - that warm, cosy, glowing fire and fragrant kitchen "thing" that the Dutch do so very well.
All munchie jokes aside, the foods you choose to eat before or with your cannabis – whether you’re smoking for anxiety or using edibles for better sleep or medicinal oil for cancer treatment – really change the way our bodies receive and are able to process the powerful phytochemicals.
Being awake literally before the birds? It's my normal but rarely do I feel such a pull to get out of my warm snuggly bed and into the morning. I'm staying at a small Nature Lovers Retreat in a tiny village called Chiang Dao. It's a sacred area in the mountains near the Burmese border, about 1.5 hours drive north-west of Chiang Mai. The name Chiang Dao means "mountain of the stars" in pasaa nuea, the northern language, and the area has been a famous pilgrimage site for Buddhist monks for well over 2,000 years. There are quite a few mummies enshrined in the temples here - monks who went deep into meditation on Doi Chiang Dao and simply left their bodies behind.
I bought just one as a sort of sympathy shop. You know, like sympathy sex, where you're not remotely invested beyond cool curiosity but feel so sorry for someone putting it out there so earnestly for zero response. She was at the market I have been helping to start. An older European woman selling all sorts of strange oddments, including an assortment of plants. I was wandering each stall in a sort of managerial way, making polite chit chat and trying to find ways to support people without BUYING STUFF I DON'T NEED. @millycf1976 😆
