Can someone please explain to me why ecency points continue to exist? Was pushing buttons in the wallet today and discovered that I was closing in on 35k ecency points, with the unlikely estimated value of nearly $70 USD. Yeeehaw, right? Near as I can tell though, their sole purpose seems to be in-game currency for a choose-your-own-advertising adventure.
Got nothing against ecency, it's my preferred front end, but ever since boost went away the whole points thing has seemed like a bit of an evolutionary dead end. Don't know about y'all but I don't want to see sponsored posts, much less be a participant in the whole process of sponsoring them. Hell, 'include reblogs' is bad enough. From how it was explained to me I get the impression boost was never sustainable, but if we're stuck with infinitely accumulating points, can we at least come up with something entertaining to do with them?
Anybody got any ideas? This is only partially a rant, looking for ideas too. Could do a Hive equivalent to the Razzies, give points out as prizes for awards like 'Most Generic Comments of the Year' or the 'Gangstalking Lifetime Achievement Award'. Would love to play poker with points but I'm not sure how you could even pull that off. Points aren't even tokens are they? Anybody want to start making book with points?
It'd be fun, we could do death pools, or any other sort of betting that'd be illegal if anything of value was being wagered. Alright, now who wants to bet 1000 points on how long the blockchain will last?
