FungiFriday: Honeycomb Fungus (Favolus sp.)

I found a beautiful mushroom while walking in the Mon Tujouh woods, Lhokseumawe, last January. It seems to be a species of mushroom belonging to genus Favolus, or the honeycomb fungus. This is commonly found in tropical rainforests.

The fruit body is white with a short stem. The texture of the hat is rough, wavy, and flat. It has large pores with deep holes arranged radially. This shape reminds me of the Taro potato chips that I always chewed as a child.

I noticed that some of them were drying out and turning yellow. But I only took mushrooms that were still fresh. The mushrooms grew on fallen twigs, some in small groups, and some in solitary.

I also noticed small parasites eating away at the mushrooms. This suggests that the honeycomb mushroom is edible. Maybe its rough texture might require a bit more effort when chewing. Would you like to try it?
