Nineties Friday Kicking Off with Some Silver Beavis and Butt-Head

2025-03-14T18:55:00
Beavis and Butt-Head became and iconic part of the 1990's after the release of their first episode on MTV in 1993. This pair of heavy metal lovers had a combined IQ of probably 50. Then there is the fact that they were also were pretty ugly to top it all off. To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the show's release the island nation on Niue release a few silver commemorative coins, among them is this one with a mintage of 5,000 in one Troy ounce pure silver.

Whether you love them or absolutely hate them you have to admit they were a big part of the 90's television, and even had a couple movies made as well! In the past I shared a couple coins for #ninetiesfriday that were shaped like the characters and colorized. This one is non colorized and much more affordable at only $49.04 right now, the colorized ones long ago sold out and are pretty expensive to pick up these days!

I know they weren't exactly Seinfeld or Friends, but I think that was the whole point in the first place!
If you want to participate in Nineties Friday it's a fun event where you can share anything from the 1990's. It was started by @geneeverett and it has it's own community in which you can post. It's a lot of fun, so why not join in?
Now moving on to some music from the decade.
Since we just talked about the heavy metal loving duo above, it only seems fit to start off with some heavy metal.

Judas Priest

These legendary rockers formed in 1969 in Birmingham, England. They finally hit the mainstream with the release of "British Steele" in 1980. Over the next decade they sold over 50 millions records. But they weren't done yet, releasing "Painkiller" in 1990. They still are touring and writing music until this day, talk about prolific! Here's "Painkiller" off the 1990 album.

No Doubt

I know I shared this band last week, but they've always been one of my favorites. This band from Anaheim put out a huge record in 1995 with "Tragic Kingdom". Incidentally it was the first album by the band that Gwen Stefani did the majority of the writing. Coincidence? Not likely. Here's "Spiderwebs":

Green Day

It's been while since I've heard anything from these guys, so it felt like a Green Day kind of day. Formed in 1987 in Rodeo, California these guys finally hit the mainstream with the album "Dookie" in 1994. Here's "Basket Case" off the same album.

Nirvana

If you were around in the 1990's and ever listened to the radio or watched music television there was no avoiding these guy's music. The formed as a band in1987 but picked up Dave Grohl as drummer in 1990 making up the legendary lineup of Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl. Then in 1991 with the release of album "Nevermind" they became rock legends. Here's "Come As You Are" off the same album.
And because I spent most of the 1990's living in South America and the Caribbean in Spanish speaking countries I like to throw at least one song in Spanish.

Gloria Trevi

This Mexican singer/dancer/ actress came to fame in the late 1980's. However in 1991 she released the album "Tu Ángel de la Guarda" (Your Guardian Angel) that made her an international star. Probably the biggest hit song off that record was "Pelo Suelto" (Loose Hair):
That will wrap up my post for today, another edition of Nineties Friday in the books. I hope you enjoyed some or all of the material I threw in, there is just so much to pick from that decade. Please feel free to leave any comments or questions below, and thank you for all of your support. It's deeply appreciated. Have a great weekend everyone!
