I wanted to visit a waterfall, but not one of the usual ones in the area. We are blessed in Hamilton Ont. with more than 100 waterfalls in and around the city. Making it the waterfall capital of the world. The best 10 or so are regularly visited by a lot of people daily, including Princess falls. A large waterfall that is along the 403 highway coming into the city from the west.
A lesser known waterfall is Duchess falls that can be seen in this photo downstream of Princess falls (bottom center).
When the highway was built, this section of the creek was made into a urban creek (running the water through an underground tunnel).
This is where I decided to hike to and starting walking through a field under several powerlines and turkey vultures.
Until hitting the creek bed, that seemed to have a low waterflow.
After a short walk the waterfall became visible. A highlight of this 14 foot tall waterfall is the red clay that it runs through.
It's a great little hike that is off the beaten trail. If you are going to visit, make sure to keep your eyes open for ticks! I had more than a dozen of them on me when I left lol.
