I am conscious that I have not done a drumming video in a while. I have not been working on many exercises or pieces lately, but I do have a play now and then. Doing posts about it ought to be an incentive.
I was not even planning to post today, but I was watching the percussion final of the BBC Young Musician competition and I got inspired. These are young people between about 15 and 18 who already have achieved levels of musicianship I may never match. The variety of musical styles was also impressive with jazz, classical, rock and some very 'out there' pieces.
Inspiration is a large part of the musical process. I can get inspiration for writing songs or to cover songs by others or just to pick up an instrument and play something. I may have picked up something about this rhythm from one of the pieces I heard, but I popped into my head and I had to try playing it, just to see if I could. It does help when you can play what your mind comes up with and it is not always the case.
So this is an improvisation around what I thought of that features a couple of hits on the floor tom each time around, although I did skip some for variety.
I am not seeing too many active drummers on Hive. Some who were posting videos have not been around lately, but I just saw that @andrewmusic has got himself an electronic kit.
I am still fairly new to drumming, but having fun with it.
