Hi all, welcome back to my #running blog!
With 4 weeks to go until the NN Marathon Rotterdam I am nearing the end of my second peak week.
While my initial goal for this week was 80 km, I am currently at 64 km and have my subday long run still open. I decided to lower the distance on tomorrow’s run a little bit but we will definitly meet and exceed the goal.
Today I went for a recovery run where I foccused on keeping my heartbeat below 140 BPM. Today was a great trainingsopportunity as I notice that in situations where I feel a little unease I have more difficulties to follow my own plan and own planned pace. In the marathon (especially a crowded one as Rotterdam or Amsterdam) you will start with thousands packed together and will only find your own space after 5 to 10 km. Dealing with this, will greatly determine how successful the race will be.
Today I tried to mimic that feeling of unease in a safe situation. My oldest daughter had a dancing class and the teacher almost always starts late. I really feel uncomfortable if I would be too late in picking up my kid. Dealing with this I normally do a very short run and find myself waiting 20 min , or when I do a longer run - I seem to go faster and faster especially in the second half returning to the dancing studio. My goal today was to embrace that feeling and trusting on my initial estimation where I would be perfectly in time to pick here up - but don’t let it determine my pace. Therefore a slower pace was extremely helpful to test this.
It felt fine to do this - I did notice myself at 3 times feeling uneased but I did decided to embrace the opportunity.
While the sun was shining bright, the experienced temperature was -2C due to a strong cold wind. I was not really dressed for that with that - but after a few minutes I usually warm up so I ended up enjoying the sun!
Happy running!
