Bey, beer lovers, how are you? It seems that I posted here quite a long time ago, but now this is gonna change. Today the beer that I am enjoying is one that I have tried once, but it was a long time ago. Maybe some of you with a good experience of belgian sour beers know Duchesse de Bourgogne brands with the mysterious lady on the label.
This is not the original Duchesse though… It is a cherry infused sour beer. On the label they state that 200 grams of whole cherries had been added per liter of beer, which is a lot! Let’s see of this is gonna add a unique fruity flavor to this wild fermented beverage.
The Duchesse Cherry was a gift for chtistmas in the company of two other sour beers, but they will have a later appearance in my blog. To be honest, I couldn’t remember well if the original beer was good or bad, because it was a long time ago, but I think that it was a beer worth trying.
Time to open it!
Meeting the fresh air, the beer instantly released a lot of its heavenly but wild aromas. I have forgotten how the Brett fermented beer smells and tastes, because I had mainly lacto fermented ones. I don’t say that they are bad, but brett leaves its unique set of mysterious tastes and aromas.
Some may define it like wet leather, other will say it smells of a dozen burning tires, it will be described even like a barn “aroma”. One thing is sure, it is like nothing else. These beers are definitely quite sour too!
Here, the added cherries definitely leave another layer in the flavor and they definitely shine in front of the barn. 😁
Taste wize, it replicates the aroma pattern. I think it is a flavor thar is difficult to describe propery, but one that is unique and one that is quite hard to forget afterwards. Even if it fades away a bit with the months and years passing, it cannot be forgotten.
And it is strong, very strong! I can relate this to the heavily smoked whiskies. Anything that you drink after this just feels dull and weak. So, if you will have various beers and there is a brett sour in the set, make sure it remains last!
To be honest, this beer is not the everyday beer, it is sometimes difficult to drink, especially if you aren’t trained for brett. First time you meet it, it will be a scandalous rendezvous, but ith a bit of parience and palate training, you will love this world of new flavors.
I liked this a lot, although it is not the everyday beer. Maybe once or twice a week will be quite enjoyable by myslef. More often it will become little bit too much! The cherries definitely add a beautiful fruity flavor to this wild beauty.
That’s for today, see you soon and have a wonderful day!
Cheers and bye!
