Fighting Discord Scam Bots - An hour of Cleaning

By @louis8811/16/2025hive-148441

Well, we actually had a meeting planned for a Sunday morning. I mean, who schedules a meeting on a Sunday morning? Turns out it was a mistake in the calendar – the meeting did not happen. But since my brother and I were already awake and ready, we thought, why not still do something productive with our time?

That is when I had the idea: let us clean up the Hive Discord and the Hive Engine Discord server a little. Both of us have been doing moderation work for a long time now, so it is something we know how to do quickly and effectively.

As many of you already know, scammers and phishing bots often sneak into public Discord servers. They pretend to offer help, usually with wallet problems or Hive account issues, and then try to steal private keys from new or confused users. These bots usually use trigger words like “support,” “wallet,” “lost access,” or “need help.” When they detect these words, they send scam messages automatically.

The trick is to trigger them on purpose, wait until they send their scam message, and then ban them immediately. This stops them from tricking real users and keeps the server safe. We were able to find and remove several of these accounts in a short time.

What really pushed us to take action that morning was a chat conversation we saw, where one user had actually sent his Hive keys to a scammer. That was the final reason we needed to spend the next hour cleaning things up. We knew we had to help stop this from happening again.

So, my brother and I worked together, checked messages, used smart filters, and kicked out several suspicious accounts. It might not sound exciting, but it was important. You can see the results of our cleanup in the screenshots below. We got a lot done in just one hour.

Big shoutout to @rivalzzz for your help and your time!
I added 50% beneficiaries to this post for you – because your effort and support really deserve it.

Stay safe out there – and remember, never share your private keys with anyone, even if they claim to be support. Hive is decentralized, and there are no admins who need your password! 🔐🛡️

LETS GO!
