I completed another book recently. This one was called Nuclear War: A Scenario and was written by author Annie Jacobsen. I saw it recommended on Social Media and it sounded pretty interesting. It also sounded very relevant today with everything that's going on in the world, unfortunately.

The doomsday clock was set to 85 seconds on January of this year. Its the closest the clock has ever been to midnight in history. Its crazy to think that we are actually closer to nuclear holocaust then we were at any point during the cold war. Its not an end all, be all, metric but its a data point to the craziness of the world today. The change of the time closer to midnight was even before this whole issue in Iran as well...
Initially it crossed my mind that the book might help me prepare for a worst case scenario. The idea of becoming a doomsday prepper seems more and more appealing to me these days. In all seriousness I really just read the book for fun.
Anyway, the book poses a scenario in which a nuclear attack is made on the United States and what follows is a minute by minute (in some cases a second by second) account of what happens next. The book outlines how the government and military would react and counter the attack, and the steps and processes for dealing with the situation as it rapidly unfolds. The book also interweaves information about some of the science and history of nuclear and military technology.
The author complied the information used in the scario through interviews and declassified documents from top military and civilian experts on the subject as well as various organizations and institutes related to the subject.
I found the book to be very interesting overall amd completed it in one week. It also helped me understand a lot of the military defense systems currently being used in the war today, the acronyms and defense systems and all of that.
All in i did really enjoy the book. I wouldn't say that it was an incredible read but it was interesting and very accessible.
