Around 6:30 PM yesterday, I was arranging my things and about to close for the day when I heard quarrelsome shouts at the backyard of the compound, where we have a large space to do anything we want. I got to the scene and met the elderly man in our compound, shouting and raining all manner of insults on the landlord in his absence. It was at that moment we discovered that the landlord had rented out part of the compound because he had recently traveled to the city and returned to find the space tidied up, unlike before when it was bushy.
The man who was ranting and insulting the landlord in his absence was the one who had cleared the bushes and had been sweeping the area to arrange the firewood he brings once in a while for cooking. He was extremely angry because he believed the landlord should have politely informed him to clear off his firewood instead of renting out the space. The people who rented the space had scattered his firewoods, more like they threw them away.
He said a lot of things and even declared that if he happened to see the landlord the next day, he would shout at him and rain insults on him with the same intensity. Honestly, the man was as angry as if he had been cut by a knife and pepper had been added to the wound. It was only the second time I had seen him that angry. The first time was when he nearly caught some thieves who were about to steal his local chickens. That day, he almost fired his gun out of anger. Yes, he is in the security business, and he always brings his gun to the house.
The next day, which was today, the landlord came, and to my greatest surprise, this man did not say anything about the anger he had expressed the day before. I saw the two of them talking calmly and laughing, and I just concluded that he must have been under the influence of alcohol yesterday, which is why he vented his anger so intensely but could not sustain it upon seeing the landlord.
Meanwhile, the landlord is not the type who is highly respected either. He does things nonchalantly and authoritatively, as if he is an assistant to God. Yes, anyone can insult him, and he does not feel bad or try to act mature the next day. So, the elderly man not insulting the landlord upon seeing him today only means that he was drunk yesterday while venting his anger. Otherwise, they have had heated arguments many times in the past.
Thanks for reading.
