After meeting some many people over the world for so many years, I have learned to always trust your senses when they are telling your something. Very often you meet people who you immediately know that they are your person.
This also works the other way around. I remember back in the days when I had just moved to the Caribbean that I met this older fella in a bar who I was just making conversation with. He started with all kinds of bullcrap stories on how he used to be a hotshot in Hollywood and did all kinds of film stuff.
Now...let me make a little side note on this: In the Caribbean you meet a lot of people who are also hiding from something, or are in some ways in a retirement situation. Usually, the people who are in a retirement situation because they have had a big break, are not the most talkative about this.. you just find out eventually.
So when someone starts with this whole big story on what they have achieved in sentence number 1....well, something is just fishy.
The old man was totally harmless, but everyone knew he was just full of shit.
## The radar
Recently the bullshit radar went off again. I was at this social setting with some friends from where say 80% knows each quite well. We are all quite humble humans and no one really has an opinion on what the other one is up to. That makes it all work. There is no judging.
At some point this dude walks in who is an old friend of a friend and immediately he starts showing off in stories. 'Ow yeah, I got this in Dubai' in the first sentence to the next one 'yeah when I lived there with my ex, I just broke up recently again, pffff....all of these women' to mentioning that he is an entrepeneur in the first minute at least 5 times.
Remember this was at a friendly setting with people who are all super easy going with each other with all different backgrounds who are not comparing to one and another. But this dude was really trying to sell himself and it was getting old really fast.
I still don't know what the deal was here and I also just don't want to know. What I do know is that I am happy that normally I don't run into these people a lot and I am more than fine with that.
Just cut the crap on trying to sell yourself, this isn't a networking meeting and you are making me itch with all of this...This is just people having a beer in their weekend and having a good time, don't try to make it all too big please.
