It's always so funny to realize that a lot of the places where your country is famous for, you literally have never been to. When people are travelling, that is when you visit them. But when they are relatively closeby, that is when you skip them, because would would you go to a place where all the tourists hang out.
When I look at myself, I tend to stay out of the famous photo spots also in other countries. It doesn't make a lot of sense to go and snap the place where the same snap has been taken already a million times before you. Where most likely also are a million other people at that same time also trying to do the same thing.
I was in Amsterdam recently in one of the most famous spots of the city and when I was there I actually realized it.
I have literally never been here before in my whole life, even though I have been in Amsterdam dozens of times already.
## Museumplein en Rijksmuseum
For me there was always not a reason to actually be here. I don't really have a special interest in museums, I don't like the crowded setting of the types of events that usually are organized here. And I also don't like the tourists mobbing around in all the ways that I was describing here above.
But now I was just passing through by foot walking from one side of the city to the next spot, and that was I realized that this all was new for me, and hey...
I might as well take a snap here and there then right?

This is the Rijksmuseum which of course is known for its iconic building that you can recognize from anywhere. Art like 'the Night Watch' by Rembrand is located here together with dozens of other Rembrand paintings.
Also stuff from Johannes Vermeer hangs here but I'm really sure if you are not Dutch that that even will ring a bell.

It was interesting that there were not a lot of people chilling here, while the place looks great for it. I do wonder if that is allowed there, but who knows.
The cool thing about the Rijksmuseum is there is a walking path and a biking path through the building, and at night when I was walking here again there were a lot of musicians playing here because of the awesome accoustics.
The ceiling and the sounds reminds me of a church and that is when playing there is so awesome I guess.
Concert Building and van Gogh museum
Looking towards the other side you have the famous 'concertbuilding' which is like the Royal Albert Hall of the Netherlands. Most of the times it is used for classical music as the acoustic is apparently one of the best in the world.
I didn't go in there, but from the outside it looks awesome I must say!

Walking down a bit more there you have the ' van Gogh' museum where most of the stuff by Vincent van Gogh is exposed. Actually it is kind of funny because Vincent van Gogh used to live in the region where I live and there is a lot more historical stuff about him going on.
I get it though.. No one comes to the town of Nuenen when visiting the Netherlands, but they
do visit Amsterdam and that is why this museum is located right there.

But uhh...the building looks absolutely terrible right? A bit of architecture would have totally been more in place if you ask me. But then again, who am I.
There must have been some vision to this all, I guess I am just not seeing it ;)
## What to think?
It was weird walking around here. It felt like I was totally abroad in another while walking around here. Literally not a single Amsterdam citizen would go and hang out or even pass through here and that is why it feels entirely alienated from that you are used to.
Usually when visiting friends this is other parts of the city, and there is never a reason to head out this way to the centre.

Luckily there are always the thing you are used to seeing. Take this plant pot with the Amsterdam sign on there with a triple X with plants in there that are half dead. That
does make it feel a lot more normal.
So yeah...with me making all of those snaps of the iconic building does make me a member of the touristy family now doesn't it? I was totally all in ;)
