Stephen King's son! That's when my curiosity got piqued, let's be clear: yes, the fact that he's King's son can put your expectations through the roof, but Joe Hill has long since shown that he's much more than "the son of...". The guy has his own way of telling stories, and "The Black Phone" is proof, the movie grabs you from minute one with that murky, claustrophobic vibe, a super original idea and that mix of terror that gets to your guts with a supernatural touch that... left me surprised, but at the same time, sensitive... from the beginning, the story hooks you with the central idea: a kidnapped boy, locked in a dark basement, and suddenly... a phone that isn't connected to anything starts ringing!
