A syrupy ballad by British-Irish singer-songwriter Chris de Burgh, released in 1986 as part of the album Into the Light. It peaked at number 3 on the US Billboard, becoming his best-selling single and signature song. It introduced him to the mainstream audience worldwide.
Accordingly, the song was inspired by the memory of when he first saw his wife, Diane (who used to come and watch him perform at his parents' hotel), and how men often cannot remember what their wives were wearing when they first met.
(src)Interestingly, the song was voted the 10th most annoying song of all time in a poll by Dotmusic in 2000; the 3rd worst song in 1980 by Rolling Stone readers; 6th worst love song of all time by Gigwise; and the 4th most hated UK-number one single in a 2001 poll by the Channel 4 and readers of The Observer.
(src)Well, people have different opinions and preferences, but I think it is a wonderful song, perfect for a sweet dance.
