Time For A Change At The Goalpost

Good day, everyone, and welcome to my blog. FC Barcelona played at home against Villareal in matchday 37 of La Liga this season, as the season is one game away from rounding up officially. Ter Stegen played his second match coming back from a knee injury which happened at the end of last year. Ter Stegen's injury led to Barcelona going for a temporary goalkeeper, and they needed someone to back up Inaki Pena at the goalpost. Although I was against the signing because I felt Inaki Pena could rise up to the challenge and cover up for Ter Stegen.
The club went on in search of a goalkeeper and brought in Szczesny from retirement into the club, and he delivered more than I expected. Szczesny's performance didn't go unnoticed as the club decided to offer him a one-year contract extension, which I believe he deserves, and hopefully, we will be seeing him in action again next season. Now, here is the thing: I haven't criticised Ter Stegen before, even when the Barcelona fan base has been on it for years, but today I agree with them, as Ter Stegen is not fit to be Barcelona's number one goalkeeper moving forward into the new season.
The German goalkeeper has passed his prime, and it's high time the board acknowledge this and goes into the market to get a solid goalkeeper. Yesterday's match just confirmed that the squad can have Ter Stegen at the goalpost because how can he concede three goals from three shots on target without saving anyone, and this makes me wonder how the season would have been if Ter Stegen had not picked up that knee injury last year. Szczesny has been decisive in important moments for the team, and although he has made a couple of mistakes, it doesn't take away that he has been solid for the second half of the season for Barcelona.
Ter Stegen has continuously made errors in the goalpost, which have cost the team titles over the past years. The Champions League incident with AS Roma and the comeback from Liverpool at Anfield are two key examples of how Ter Stegen has cost the team a lot in the past. It is high time that FC Barcelona began to look for another goalkeeper because if the team wants to push for the Champions League and other titles next season, they can't afford to have a goalkeeper who doesn't make saves when the defence is broken.
It's time for the club to look forward and let Ter Stegen go because his time with the club is over in my books. Ter Stegen has given Barcelona incredible moments, but as the saying goes, it is better to leave a hero than to stay and become the villain. It's is up to the board to make a decision and act on it and some reports says that Hansi Flick knows the players he wants to add to the team and we be in talks with Deco, hopefully a new goalkeeper would be in Hasni Flick plan, but he can as well decide to still continue with Marc Andre Ter Stegen next season. So, guys, that will be all for now. Thanks for stopping by and have a good day.
