Cuando leí la iniciativa no pensé en participar, nunca fui scouts y pensé que no tenía mucho que decir al respecto. Luego, recordé algo, y sí, me di cuenta que sí puedo dar mis apreciaciones sobre este tema. Lo poco que conocía de los scouts era solo lo que veía en la televisión, en películas, comics y algunas series. Sentía admiración por aquellos grupos que aprenden técnicas para la supervivencia al aire libre, acampando y siendo muy unidos. Tienen un lema que nunca olvidé y que a veces usaba cuando era precavida y podía solventar alguna situación, sea laboral o personal, y no solo yo, también si algún amigo o compañero de trabajo lo lograba, yo decía en esos casos “siempre listos, como los scouts.”

En mi época universitaria, viví en una residencia junto a otros estudiantes, allí conocí al nieto de los señores de la casa, el chico era algo rebelde y tenía problemas en la escuela. Este chico pertenecía a un grupo de scouts, se notaba su amor y pasión por ese movimiento, lo malo era que él decía que no quería estudiar, “yo solo quiero ser scout”, me decía. Yo le preguntaba de qué se trababa ser scout y él me contaba. Cuando hablaba de ese movimiento, se notaba su fascinación, la emoción cuando se iba de campamento y dejaba entrever lo maravilloso que era compartir con ese grupo, la hermandad que había entre ellos, como una gran familia.

Algunas veces llegué a pensar en lo positivo de pertenecer al movimiento scout, donde se fomenta el aprendizaje para la supervivencia en la naturaleza, además de un contacto estrecho con ésta pasando tiempo al aire. Me imaginaba algo que quizás parece cómico o fantasioso, que si me perdiera en un bosque sabría qué hacer, como sobrevivir y eso sería a través de las enseñanzas obtenidas en los grupos de scouts. Con el tiempo me di cuenta que ser scout no solo se trata de ser un niño explorador y aprender técnicas de supervivencia, hacer fuego o construir refugios, ser socut es mucho más que eso.

Este movimiento va en pro de la formación del carácter, además de muchos valores, como la disciplina, el compromiso, la responsabilidad, la independencia y el trabajo en equipo. Estar “siempre listos” aplica en la vida misma, nos motiva a ser precavidos, para estar preparados en las situaciones que puedan presentarse y en la toma de decisiones para lograrlo. Pienso que introducir este movimiento en las aulas resultaría muy positivo para los estudiantes. Podría ser incluido como una materia electiva, ir a lugares rurales cercanos para fomentar ese tipo de convivencias para que a través del contacto directo con la naturaleza aprendan a apreciarla, además de todos los beneficios que aporta este extraordinario movimiento. No tengo hijos, de haberlos tenido, me hubiera gustado que tuvieran una experiencia con grupos scouts.

When I read about the initiative, I didn't think about participating. I was never a scout and thought I didn't have much to say about it. Then I remembered something, and yes, I realized that I can give my thoughts on this topic. The little I knew about scouts was only what I saw on television, in movies, comics, and some series. I admired those groups that learn outdoor survival skills, camping, and being very close-knit. They have a motto that I never forgot and that I sometimes used when I was cautious and could solve a situation, whether at work or in my personal life. And not only me, but also if a friend or coworker managed to do so, I would say in those cases, “Always be prepared, like the Scouts.”

When I was in college, I lived in a residence hall with other students, where I met the grandson of the owners of the house. The boy was somewhat rebellious and had problems at school. He belonged to a scout group, and you could see his love and passion for that movement. The problem was that he said he didn't want to study. “I just want to be a scout,” he told me. I asked him what being a scout was all about, and he told me. When he talked about the movement, you could see his fascination, his excitement when he went camping, and he hinted at how wonderful it was to be part of that group, the brotherhood between them, like a big family.

Sometimes I thought about the positive aspects of belonging to the Scout movement, which promotes learning survival skills in nature, as well as close contact with nature by spending time outdoors. I imagined something that might seem comical or fanciful, that if I got lost in a forest I would know what to do, how to survive, and that would be thanks to the lessons I had learned in the Scouts. Over time, I realized that being a Scout is not just about being an explorer and learning survival techniques, how to make a fire or build shelters; being a Scout is much more than that.

This movement promotes character building, as well as many values such as discipline, commitment, responsibility, independence, and teamwork. Being “always ready” applies to life itself, motivating us to be cautious, to be prepared for situations that may arise, and to make decisions to achieve this. I think introducing this movement into the classroom would be very positive for students. It could be included as an elective subject, going to nearby rural areas to encourage this type of coexistence so that through direct contact with nature they learn to appreciate it, in addition to all the benefits that this extraordinary movement brings. I don't have children, but if I had, I would have liked them to have an experience with scout groups.
