Since I found out my nephew was coming to visit we've been talking about "the mission"; that is, the trip we needed to take to the mall to search out and secure a Lego purchase for us to build together - a worthy objective indeed.
We'd planned it out, how we would divert the attention of my partner and @mrbonker's parents long enough for us to insert, deploy the mission and exfil safely to secure the objective. We decided the diversionary tactics would involve getting them ensconced in a cafe with a cake and coffee (don't worry, we'd be back to partake of cake ourselves after the mission) and off we'd deploy to the shop. Part of the ruse was that we'd say, "we're going to look for matching uncle-nephew outfits."
We were certain the plan would work, I mean don't all uncles and nephews wear matching clothing?
We fast-roped out of the helo which hovered at the DZ just long enough to deposit us deep within Lego territory and seconds after our boots hit the ground we were on high alert as we patrolled to the area where we knew we'd locate the target. Fucken Lego y'all!
Ok, we didn't fast-rope down at all...there wasn't even a helicopter, (although I wish there was), but the lad and I walked through the mall to the department store called, Myer, where I knew I'd find Lego at 20% off retail - and we shopped. It was really cute because he reached up and held my hand as we walked though...a nice moment for an uncle and one that won't last forever as he'll get older and all.
I let him pick out the Lego, you can see it above...No, he doesn't actually have a beard, he's only six and a half years old, but I don't have a @mrbonkers head to cover his real face up so I used the one I use for my own images.
The mission went flawlessly and we returned triumphantly to the cafe where the other three were none-the-wiser that we had purchased Lego.
Ok, they knew but pretended not to.
I actually bought him some clothes when we were on the mission as well which he showed off proudly and because we don't lie to family we came clean about the Lego talking about it over the cake and coffee (he had hot chocolate) we finally got in celebration of mission success.
We'll be building the Lego set shortly, the bugger has been pestering me about it since we got it and has come up with so many scenarios all of which justify building it that very second. We'll get to it though, eventually, and we'll both enjoy the experience of building Lego again.
