My girlfriend and I were chatting the other day about marriage; we'd received a wedding invitation from one of her friends and it prompted a discussion around whether people should or should not get married, if the concept of marriage was relevant anymore and what pros and cons existed either way; married or not. It was an interesting discussion.
What my wife and I discussed and the thoughts we had don't really matter to anyone other than ourselves - it's such a personal thing I think - but we both certainly agreed that a couple should not be made to feel obligated to marry which is what (some) religions dictate. Considering both of us are non-religious it comes as no surprise that we are quite anti-religion and against the nutbaggery that is the outdated doctrines of antiquated and irrelevant organisations.
My mistress and I had a spirited discussion though, we like to do that sometimes, and had a few laughs as well mostly in respect of what people have said, indicated or alluded to in respect of ourselves in respect of being married or not.
It doesn't matter to my concubine and I what others think about our relationship though and I don't think it's anyone's right to look into someone else's situation and judge or dictate, but people do right?
During the discussion my inamorata said that more important than marriage was fidelity and I agree; we also feel that marriage doesn't guarantee it so if that's the case is marriage even needed? A question only each couple can answer for themselves, but we believe in it if done for the right reasons...Love I mean.
My girlfriend/wife/mistress/concubine/inamorata and I have a special relationship, special because we think of it that way and make it that way on a daily basis, and whether we're married or not doesn't even come into it. I'm not saying we are not married and I'm not saying we are married - that's none of your business - but I'm certainly saying that either way it's up to any couple to make sure their relationship is engaging, loving, caring, passionate, interesting and any number of other things as well...that's what's important.
