Life sentence

We are all fated to a life sentence...an indeterminate period of "living life". There's another type of life sentence of course, incarceration, but hopefully we'll all avoid that one completely.

I feel that many people subject themselves to a life sentence that, whilst not physically spent in jail, is still one of confinement, inhibited and not fully-lived to its potential, and it's sad to think that a lot of the time that's due to their own poor choices, lack of ownership and discipline and a complete failure to take any responsibility for what happens in their lives.
I believe each of us should work on leading a happy and meaningful life but a lot do not and down the track a ways...well, I wonder how they deal with the regret that often comes of it.
I'm certainly not perfect by any means and certainly not when it comes to creating the life I'd like to live although I've worked towards creating and designing my ideal life and have been generally successful for the most part. I'm not suggesting everyone should do what I do (that's be weird) but I thought I'd share some sentences (phrases) that once understood and followed have helped me along the journey of life and which I've used to good advantage.

So here goes...some life sentences

  • Risk is essential to reward; there's an element of risk required to create your story and to paint your masterpiece.
  • If your words could not be heard and only your actions observed, what perception would others have of your priorities, personality and integrity and what you do to uphold them.
  • Securing one's mooring lines to the dock and staying safely in the harbour feels comfortable but the true journey lies out in open water where one can unfurl sails, catch the wind and navigate towards greater opportunities.
  • True magic in life (success, reward, happiness and meaning, relationships etc.) hides within the difficult things people often avoid, so don't avoid them.
  • Some things in life "cost" far too much; if something or someone costs you your peace it's too expensive. Move on and spend your currency elsewhere where better value exists.
  • Criticism can be healthy, productive and an excellent way to course-correct towards better results but only if it comes from someone you would actually accept and value advice from.
  • Fear should be embraced and welcomed as the gift and motivation it is; it doesn't stop bad things happening, or death, it simply stops life from moving forward.
  • Throw out your old mentality and open up to a new one; it's through change, internal and external, and affirmative action that progress occurs, lessons are learned and life develops.

Ok, that's it folks...I don't want to make this a big post and while I could go on...and on...and on...I believe these few life sentences above are plenty for y'all to consider.
Some may not be relevant to you (probably all are though) and you may not agree with them or the exact wording I've used and that's fine; it's more about the concept of each, the ethos behind it, and if taken away and thought about (adapted and assimilated into your life) I totally believe every person can find something to cause a shift to, or expansion of, their paradigm and a better path forward through life.
Our life sentence (the time we have allotted to us) isn't at all about staying in one place, trapped in a cycle of thought and behaviour safe and comfortable, it's there to be lived completely and utterly and that means being a little uncomfortable at times...the question for each of us though is, *do we make it an enjoyable and meaningful life sentence, or the opposite.
