Carnage is perhaps one of the most violent and bloody villains that Spiderman has had to face and has recently had its adaptation to the big screen, but as has happened in ALL the universe of films based on Spiderman characters that SONY has tried to create was a resounding failure, perhaps the interpretation of the actor and the character design itself have been good or decent, but the final product of that film was quite regular, so it may be very difficult to see a more faithful or better adaptation of this character as particular as Carnage. That's why to give Carnage some justification I decided to play a game in which he is the main villain. Subsequently Carnage has been defeated by Spiderman, so Cletus is sent to Revencroft, the well-known psychiatric hospital of the comics, however, as expected and is that upon arriving at the enclosure, Cletus is transformed back into Carnage and destroys all the guards who were in the psychiatric hospital. In that massacre he freed several prisoners who also had certain powers. So now being at liberty, Carnage decides to put his name according to the situation and starts a massacre, so that Spiderman and Venom have to join forces to stop him. Visually it is a game that tried to adapt the classic style of the comics of that time and I think the result was pretty good, because although it does not have the graphic quality of several games based on Marvel characters, I think that the "comic" style that characterizes this game manages to look good on screen.

The scenarios have a slightly dark tone and this is not a bad thing in itself, but the developers chose to use this artistic resource to give some contrast to the bright colors that has Spiderman's sprite, compared to Venom whose color palette is darker. The music is very good, there are several melodies with very good guitar riffs and music that in general has very moving rhythms, with a lot of rock and in itself, music that fits perfectly with the beat'em up genre. To give you an idea, the music of this game, in part, is similar to the opening of the Spiderman animated series of the 90s.

Carnage quizás sea uno de los villanos más violentos y sangrientos de los que Spiderman ha tenido que enfrentarse y recientemente ha tenido su adaptación a la pantalla grande, pero como ha ocurrido en TODO el universo de películas basadas en personajes de Spiderman que ha intentado crear SONY fue un fracaso rotundo, quizás la interpretación del actor y el diseño del personaje en si hayan sido buenos o decentes, pero el producto final de esa película fue bastante regular, por lo que quizás sea muy difícil ver una adaptación un poco más fiel o mejor de este personaje tan particular como lo es Carnage. Es por eso que para darle un poco de justifica a Carnage decidí jugar a un juego en el que es el villano principal. Un juego del genero beat'em up bastante interesante, muy convencional en varios aspectos, pero el poder controlar a Spiderman o a Venom perece totalmente la pena jugarlo.

Aunque no he leído el comic, este juego parece estar basado en el comic del mismo nombre, en el que se nos dice que Vemon ha tenido un “hijo”; el cual al desprenderse de él ha buscado a un nuevo huésped, encontrando al maniaco y asesino Cletus Kasady, dando así origen a nuevo simbionte Carnage. Posteriormente Carnage ha sido derrotado por Spiderman, por lo que Cletus es enviado a Revencroft, el muy conocido psiquiátrico de los comics, sin embargo como es de esperarse y es que al llegar al recinto, Cletus se transforma nuevamente en Carnage y destroza a todos los guardias que se encontraban en el psiquiátrico. En esa masacre libero a varios prisioneros que tenían también ciertos poderes. Por lo que ahora encontrándose en libertad, Carnage decide poner su nombre acorde a la situación y empieza una masacre, de tal forma que Spiderman y Venom tienen que unirse para poder así detenerlo. Visualmente es un juego que intentó a adaptar el estilo clásico de los comics de esa época y creo que el resultado fue bastante bueno, ya que si bien no tiene la calidad gráfica de varios juegos basados en personajes de Marvel, creo que ese estilo “comic” que caracteriza a este juego logra verse bien en pantalla.

Destaca mucho el diseño de Spiderman, el de Venom y el de otros personajes míticos de los comics que harán cameos en este videojuegos, ya que son fieles representaciones de sus versiones más antiguas de los comics, por lo que este es un juego que puede llegar a causar bastante nostalgia para aquellas personas que crecieron leyendo los comics del héroe arácnido. Los escenarios están muy bien representados y representada muy bien en términos de grafica toda una era de videojuegos de los años 90, es un elemento que con tan solo verlo a primera vista sabemos que se trata de un juego de esa época. Los personajes ocupan bastante espacio en pantalla, ya que en sí, los escenarios no son tan grandes como en otros juegos del genero beat'em up, debido a esto era necesario que lo escenarios pudieran tener una buena calidad en sus detalles, algo que este juego cumple bastante bien. De vez en cuando el juego nos contara la historia por medio de páginas de comics, algo que está bastante bueno y es un detalle que me gusta cuando lo utilizan en juegos de este estilo.

Los personajes se mueven bien en pantalla y gozan de una buena cantidad de animaciones variadas, además de que su fluidez de movimiento es adecuada. También cuenta con una gran cantidad de diseños de enemigos, un elemento muy importante en un beat'em up, pero también cuenta con el clásico repintado de un mismo sprite de enemigo, para así darse cierta “variedad” de enemigos, un elemento muy típico de en los juegos de este género, que se mantiene en los beat'em up más actuales y es un recurso que se mantendrá por la eternidad, ya que es un recurso muy convencional en este tipo de videojuegos. Los escenarios tienen una tonalidad un poco oscura y esto no es algo malo en sí, sino que los desarrolladores optaron por utilizar este recurso artístico para darle cierto contraste a los colores llamativos que tiene el sprite de Spiderman, a comparación de Venom cuya paleta de colores es más oscura. La música es muy buena, hay varias melodías con riff de guitarras muy buenos y música que en general tiene ritmos muy movidos, con mucho rock y en sí, música que encaja a la perfección con el género beat'em up. Para que tengan una idea, la música de este juego, en parte, es similar al opening de la serie animada de Spiderman de los 90.

Los efectos de sonido son bastante típicos, son los clásicos sonidos de golpes que podremos escuchar en el 99% de los juegos de este género, no es algo malo en sí, ya que al ser un juego tan viejo es de esperarse que tuviera este tipo de efectos, aun así los efectos de sonido de los puñetazos que genera este videojuego son muy satisfactorios, por lo que en términos personales, este es un elemento muy bueno en un juego en el que estamos en constantes peleas. Spiderman and Venom: Maximum Carnage, también cuenta con una version para SNES y son juegos totalmente iguales, tan solo cambiando aspectos gráficos en una consola de videojuegos a otras, siendo este un beat'em up que pese a mantener todas las características clásicas de los juegos de este estilo, es en sí un título bastante entretenido y que se nota desde el inicio que fue un juego hecho con bastante esmero y dedicación, siendo su mayor atractivo el uso de personajes como Spiderman o Venom, los cuales cada uno cuenta con un estilo de pelea y ataques distintos entre sí, pero la premisa en términos de jugabilidad es la misma que cualquier otro juego del genero beat'em up: Avanzar por una serie de escenarios, derrotar a cuanto enemigo se encuentre en él y al hacerlo poder avanzar a al siguiente sección del escenario, para luego poder enfrentarnos al jefe final de cada etapa. Como dije al principio, este juego cuenta con varios cameos de otros personajes de Marvel, los cuales servirán de ataque especial, bastante útil en ciertos momentos. La variedad de formas de poder atacar es muy bueno, incluso Venom puede arrojar contenedores de basura o barriles. La verdad es un juego bastante bueno.
