Ayer, los lupulosos le dieron una felpa a los ofidios, encabezada por la ardiente ofensiva de los jugadores venezolanos del roster. 7 de las 13 carreras logradas por los Cerveceros, fueron impulsadas con los bates criollos. El tercera base connacional Luis Rengifo fue el otro protagonista al impulsar 3 rayitas: dos con un doble en el propio primer episodio y otra con rola al segunda base en el tercero.

We saw William Contreras riding the pine for Team Venezuela during the World Baseball Classic. His bat didn't provide much pop since he barely got any PT, with Salvador Pérez locked in as the everyday catcher (who also struggled to find his stroke). Taking that personally, Contreras—a guy known for his grind—decided to double down. It’s been wild to see his swing evolve after he tweaked his routine, moving his work from the field into the indoor cages, according to his coach. The best way to see the payoff is his performance against the D-backs at AmFam Field. Yesterday, the Brew Crew handed the Snakes a total shellacking, fueled by a red-hot Venezuelan offense. 7 of the Brewers' 13 runs were driven in by Venezuelan bats. Third baseman Luis Rengifo also balled out, racking up 3 ribbies: a two-run two-bagger in the first and an RBI groundout in the third.

Volviendo a William, su contribución fue devastadora y sólo le faltó el triple para batear el ciclo. Un doble en el primer inning trajo la primera carrera para abrir el marcador de los lupulosos. Luego, en la baja del tercero, pescó una "slurve" (un lanzamiento que se mueve como una combinación de slider y curva, rompiendo tanto horizontal como verticalmente) a 84 MPH con un hombre en la base, para depositarla en las gradas del jardín central a 419 pies del plato. En el cuarto, bateó un sencillo productor de una. En su siguiente turno recibió pasaporte y ya en el octavo volvió a batear un sencillo para entregar una hoja de anotación donde no fue puesto out. Sin embargo, no todo fueron malas noticias para los muchachos del desierto. Su compañero más connotado del momento fue una de las pocas luces a su favor. El primera base venezolano Ildemaro Vargas largó un par de cohetes para continuar la racha activa de juegos bateando de hit, más larga del momento en las Mayores. El hombre empató el registro histórico para un venezolano que se encontraba en poder de Willson Ramos establecido en 2019. También se igualó con Paul Goldsmith como la segunda racha más larga de juegos consecutivos bateando de hit. Con los 23 juegos que lleva ésta temporada, ya es dueño de la racha más larga en la historia para un venezolano inciando una campaña (anteriormente en manos de Pablo Sandoval) y empató la tercera más larga iniciando campaña en poder de Edgar Rentería. En cualquiera de los casos, tener una racha de más de 20 juegos bateando de hit, ya es un gran logro en los tiempos modernos, con la evolución indiscutible del pitcheo.

Venezuelan first baseman Ildemaro Vargas lashed a pair of frozen ropes to keep the longest active hitting streak in the Bigs alive. With that, he tied the all-time mark for a Venezuelan player, matching the record set by Willson Ramos back in 2019. He also pulled even with Paul Goldschmidt for the second-longest streak in franchise history. By stretching it to 23 games this season, he now owns the record for the longest season-opening hitting streak by a Venezuelan (passing Pablo Sandoval) and tied Edgar Rentería for the third-longest start to a campaign ever. Either way, putting up a 20-plus game streak is a massive feat in today’s game, especially with the way pitching has evolved.

En la bahía, finalmente el novel manager de San Francisco ha conseguido el puesto fijo en el line-up, para el segunda base venezolano Luis Arráez: tercer bate. Y si lo ve uno con lógica fría, ese debiera ser el lugar de siempre. Es decir, Luis siempre fue usado como primer bate, sin embargo, el tercer turno de una alineación SIEMPRE debe ser ocupado por el mejor chocador de pelota del equipo (que no jonronero). Esto le permite a un line-up mantener el inning vivo en caso de que se embase el hombre, luego de dos outs, con la finalidad de entregar el turno al jonronero del equipo. Out in The Bay, the Giants' rookie skipper has finally locked in a permanent spot in the lineup card for Venezuelan second baseman Luis Arráez: the three-hole. Looking at it with a cold eye, that’s exactly where he belongs. Arráez has usually been a leadoff guy, but the three-spot should ALWAYS be reserved for your best pure contact hitter (not necessarily the power threat). It keeps the inning alive with two outs, giving the cleanup hitter a chance to do some damage. The kid is in his element, flirting with the .300 mark (.305) and doing what he does best: spraying line drives all over the yard. But this season he’s flashed a tool we didn't see coming: his glove has improved big time, posting a +6 Outs Above Average (OAA). That’s a huge swing for a guy whose defensive metrics were always in the red. It looks like 'The Sprinkler' is evolving into a true complete player. Good for him.
