The Cojímar Tower

Hello everyone. A few days ago I visited Cojímar with some family members. Cojímar is a coastal village east of Havana, best known as a fishing village, but most famous for its connection with Hemingway, the american novelist. There's a bust of the writer near the Fortín of Cojímar.

I really like the marine atmosphere of Cojímar and I especially like the view that you can see from Fortín, a Spanish fortification dating back to 1649. Moreover, it was the first fortification taken by the England when they attacked Havana in 1762. I climbed the fortification and imagined the battles.

Near the Fortin, an elderly woman approached me and share histories about Cojímar's past. She described how the houses were once made of wood, and the landscape was a magical dream, it was nothing like what it is today. She also mentioned the idea of converting the Fortín into a criollo restaurant for locals and tourist, a plan announced years ago by Cojímar's authorities.

I was actually in Cojímar to visit a close friend, but I decided to walk around. I enjoy the peace and quiet. If you ever get the chance to visit Cuba someday, you should go to Cojímar. It's not too expensive, and there's a lot to see.
