Al principio, diciembre se nos presenta a paso firme pero, poco a poco; los días previos a las fiestas de Navidad y Año Nuevo son lentos, aunque llenos de actividades y responsabilidades para prepararnos para esos momentos de unión familiar. Durante ese tiempo surgen, inevitablemente, emociones, sentimientos que afloran y circunstancias que necesitan de un cierre…
Así, al llegar la primera de las festividades, que es la Navidad, el mes corre como caballo enloquecido hasta el día último del año, y es una semana donde la unión está presente, las culpas se alejan y el perdón prevalece. Se cierran ciclos en forma imprescindible para dar inicio a uno nuevo de vida, con propósitos firmes y metas claras.
Diciembre para cerrar ciclos
Aunque las situaciones que vivimos y que deseamos dejar atrás ameritan que las entendamos, las enfrentemos y las soltemos, esto lo podemos hacer durante todo el año.
Pero no es menos cierto que el día 31 de diciembre es un día en el que culturalmente nos evaluamos y nos despedimos, no solo de todo el año, sino de las circunstancias que nos duelen.
Cerrar ciclos, entonces, parece ser una de las actividades más dolorosas y a veces más esperadas en la época decembrina, porque cuando nos abrazamos para darnos el Feliz Año, presagiamos con deseos un nuevo tiempo, un distinto ciclo de vida con expectativas mejores.
Pero es importante que entendamos que al cerrar ciclos lo hacemos porque comprendemos cuál es la situación que debemos dejar detrás, y hacerlo, implica trabajar en forma introspectiva para entender la situación y las circunstancias por las cuales esto se dio.
Lo que implica cerrar ciclos…
Cuando decidimos cerrar ciclo, también cerramos el duelo que nos dejó una determinada circunstancia y perdonamos.
Parece ser que el perdón es el motor o combustible para cerrar un ciclo y comenzar uno nuevo con esperanza y sin dolores; pero es importante dejar ir las cosas que ya no podemos cambiar y a las personas que ya decidieron irse o que decidimos que ya no estuvieran en nuestras vidas.
Y esto, porque fue razonado y porque es lo mejor; y si no lo fue, ya las circunstancias van a ir adaptando nuestra existencia con características propias y necesarias a nosotros mismos y a nuestras decisiones.
¿Y si nos equivocamos?
No pasa nada, es de humanos errar.
Mucha gente realiza rituales de limpieza para decir adiós a lo malo; enciende velas o escribe cartas dejando ir lo que no conviene, como sucede el 21 de diciembre, en el que se festeja la llegada del espíritu de la Navidad.
Sin embargo, no es repochable, esta es una práctica que ayuda pues, cerrar ciclos es un buen acto a realizar el 31 de diciembre.
La importancia de dar la bienvenida a la vida
Y aunque sabemos que el nuevo año traerá consigo sus propios desafíos, lo que buscamos es movilizar energías, cerrar esos momentos que ya se vivieron y comenzar cargados de positividad y de enseñanzas que nos ha dejado el año viejo para recorrer el nuevo con herramientas de empatía y asertividad.
Al fin y al cabo, esto es lo que nos lleva a vivir en comunidad en forma más fácil y equilibrada.
Recargarse de energía implica cerrar el ciclo con limpieza de pensamiento, de sentimientos, con liberación de energías oscuras, negativas de venganza, porque cerrar ciclo es permitirnos trabajar en nosotros mismos con la esperanza de una vida mejor.
Al mismo tiempo, reconociendo que todo desafío enfrentado en el año que está muriendo, nos ha dejado aprendizajes maravillosos para seguir este camino, muchas veces arduo, que es la existencia.
Nos vestimos para recibir lo bueno
El 31 nos vestimos desde temprano con nuestras mejores galas después de una excelente limpieza; porque eso hacemos, nos limpiamos de todo lo malo y esperamos al año nuevo pulcros y con unos deseos enormes de vivir el nuevo ciclo.
Es el cierre emocional, que significa perdonar y pedir perdón, el que obliga a hacer revisión de lo vivido, a dar las gracias por todo lo bueno y lo malo, y a comenzar la nueva etapa tomando en cuenta que no estamos solos, sino que formamos parte de una gran comunidad humana.

Thus, when the first of the holidays arrives, which is Christmas, the month races by like a runaway horse until the last day of the year, and it is a week where unity is present, blame is cast aside, and forgiveness prevails. Cycles are closed in an essential way to start a new one in life, with firm resolutions and clear goals.
December: closing cycles
Although the situations we experience and wish to leave behind deserve to be understood, confronted, and let go of, we can do this throughout the year.
But it is no less true that December 31 is a day when, culturally, we evaluate ourselves and say goodbye, not only to the whole year, but also to the circumstances that cause us pain.
Closing cycles, then, seems to be one of the most painful and sometimes most anticipated activities during the holiday season, because when we hug each other to wish each other a Happy New Year, we eagerly anticipate a new time, a different cycle of life with better expectations.
But it is important to understand that when we close cycles, we do so because we understand the situation we must leave behind, and doing so involves working introspectively to understand the situation and the circumstances that led to it.
What it means to close cycles...
When we decide to close a cycle, we also close the grief that a certain circumstance left us with and we forgive.
It seems that forgiveness is the engine or fuel for closing a cycle and starting a new one with hope and without pain; but it is important to let go of the things we can no longer change and the people who have already decided to leave or whom we have decided should no longer be in our lives.
And this is because it was reasoned and because it is the best thing to do; and if it was not, circumstances will adapt our existence with characteristics that are unique and necessary to ourselves and our decisions.
What if we make a mistake?
It's okay, to err is human.
Many people perform cleansing rituals to say goodbye to the bad; they light candles or write letters letting go of what is not good for them, as happens on December 21, when the arrival of the Christmas spirit is celebrated.
However, this is not reprehensible; it is a practice that helps, because closing cycles is a good thing to do on December 31.
The importance of welcoming life
And although we know that the new year will bring its own challenges, what we seek is to mobilize our energies, close the door on moments that have already been lived, and begin the new year filled with positivity and lessons learned from the old year, so that we can navigate the new year with tools of empathy and assertiveness.
After all, this is what leads us to live in community in an easier and more balanced way.
Recharging our energy means closing the cycle with a clear mind and heart, releasing dark, negative energies of revenge, because closing the cycle allows us to work on ourselves with the hope of a better life.
At the same time, we recognize that every challenge we faced in the year that is ending has left us with wonderful lessons to continue on this often arduous path that is existence.
We dress up to welcome the good
On the 31st, we get dressed early in our finest clothes after a thorough cleaning; because that's what we do, we cleanse ourselves of all that is bad and wait for the new year, neat and tidy and with a great desire to live the new cycle.
It is the emotional closure, which means forgiving and asking for forgiveness, that forces us to review what we have experienced, to give thanks for all the good and the bad, and to begin the new stage taking into account that we are not alone, but that we are part of a great human community.
