Building connections has never been easier—or has it?
I used to think it was, but it turns out that making genuine connections is more difficult nowadays. Back when I was active on Instagram, it was much easier to gain followers. People seemed excited to connect with others, regardless of whether you were a popular figure or just a regular user like I was. If I remember correctly, I managed to gain over 2,500 followers, and had I continued my activity, I probably could have reached thousands more by now. Of course, that's just a rough estimate based on how things were back then, so it may not apply today.
Still, it's not impossible, especially with the massive user base of new mainstream apps like TikTok.
That said, navigating today’s social networks feels more challenging. It’s hard to tell if the accounts I come across are real or bots. This isn’t just happening on Hive—it’s happening everywhere. Bots and AI-generated accounts are becoming increasingly difficult to detect.
That’s exactly why I follow only a few people on TikTok. I often unfollow accounts that don’t engage. Even if someone follows me but doesn’t post content, or hasn’t liked or commented in a long time, I’ll likely unfollow them too.
I want my activity on mainstream platforms to be more meaningful by connecting with active, engaged users. I believe that’s a better direction to take, especially in today’s digital world where real human interaction is more valuable than ever.
In a digital landscape filled with noise and automation, genuine human connection has become more important than ever. By focusing on meaningful engagement, we can create more rewarding experiences on social media. It's not just about numbers anymore—it's about building real, lasting interactions that truly matter.
