Being a minimalist has been one of my best decisions as an adult. Most times I wished I adopted this lifestyle earlier. Maybe my life would have been way better than it is. Regardless I am glad I have adopted this lifestyle. I grew up with a Minimalist mom. She would always want to declutter her space. She would always make a budget for things to avoid spending recklessly. She had few friends because to her, having many friends hasn’t been helpful to her mental health. As a child, I found her lifestyle boring and would always say “When I become an adult I definitely won’t have my mum’s lifestyle”
I would always say that because I didn’t understand her kind of lifestyle but now I do understand her lifestyle, I am a minimalist and I am similar to my mom already.
I have several reasons why I adopted the minimalist lifestyle, but I will be talking about my three main and most important reasons.
The first reason is Financial Freedom, I was always someone who would spend on impulse. There’s a new wig, I am working to buy it, there’s a new shoe, I am buying it. Most days, I would make a list for the market and then I would return exceeding my list. I would always say “I needed everything I got”. This was one habit I wanted to drop so badly. Most times due to this habit, I would go days without money. I had to sit down and make important decisions. Adopting a minimalist lifestyle would help me spend less on unnecessary items. As long as those things are not important then there is no need to get them. With Minimalism there is financial freedom, you get to save and avoid being in debt.

The next reason is Peaceful Living, When it comes to minimalism we talk about slow living. This entails peace of mind. I came to understand the concept of minimalism and how it involves decluttering, this could involve both physical decluttering and mental decluttering which could lead to a peaceful and calm life. This was one of the reasons I chose to adopt minimalism. I wanted a life that would be peaceful without too much. Less people around, fewer possessions but regardless of how little these are, they make me happy and that’s all that matters. Minimalism is all about the happiness one can get from the Little things and I needed to have that lifestyle, a lifestyle where I could derive happiness from little things.
Improves Creativity This is another reason why I adopted a minimalist lifestyle. I have a friend who is a minimalist and when we got talking about how he improves his creativity, he told me it’s a lifestyle. He told me, that having a space that’s not cluttered, enjoying nature, and focusing on what truly matters can help spark up my creativity. Being a minimalist I can tell how this lifestyle has improved my creativity. I am someone who always complains about having a creativity block when designing most times but whenever I take a walk around my environment I feel relaxed. Most times I just need to hang out with my family and I feel relaxed.
Being a minimalist has made me appreciate the little things I have, I am excited about adopting the minimalist lifestyle as it has helped me grow both physically and mentally.
