Grayling / Хариус

Grayling (Thymallus) is a genus of fishes of the subfamily of the salmon family Harisovich. A characteristic feature is a large dorsal fin, the back of which in Mature males in the folded state reaches the fat, and sometimes the base of the caudal fins. Russian word "grayling" -borrowing from somewhere in the Baltic-Finnish languages, Ms. fin. harjus "European grayling".

Grayling lives in mountain rivers with clean and cold water, as well as oligotrophic lakes, at altitudes up to 2000-2300 m above sea level. Food serve the zoobenthos organisms: larvae of caddisflies, stoneflies, mayflies, chironomids, their adults, and in warm months a variety of aerial insects. Some species of grayling can eat other fish, and especially large individuals, even small rodents.

Here is such a grayling in the past year caught my son. Weight 400 grams.
