I love blue butterflies, or the family
Lycaenidae. They are beautiful little butterflies with diverse appearances, with an estimated 6000 species distributed worldwide.
Here I will share three types of lycaenids in Sumatra. These photos were taken using my cellphone camera in separate spots. I found the appropriate scientific names for each based on searches obtained on Wikipedia. Let's see!
Castalius rosimon, also known as the common pierrot. The species is commonly found in some countries in South Asia and Southeast Asia. The butterfly is white, the abdomen is banded black, and the underside of the wings is white and marked with black spots.
Spalgis epius, or commonly known as the apefly, is a lycaenid butterfly that is distributed in the Indomalayan realm. The butterfly has pale gray wings with small lines that mimic the clusters of flying birds.
Male and female orange butterflies caught during the mating season.
Loxura atymnus, commonly called the yamfly, is a species belonging to the family of blue butterflies (lycaenids) distributed across Asia.
