The topic of politics as a whole is never something I’m interested in and I’m sure this is not the first time I’m saying this. But on the other hand, I am very much concerned when it comes to things happening in my country.
I’ve been observing how things work in my country for years and from what I’ve noticed, every government comes with their own workers. So say Ghana is a one big supermarket right? The moment a new manager(president) comes to power, he immediately changes every worker, from the higher ups to the cleaner.
These changes are made mostly according to who the feels like is fit for that particular position. Recently, it’s been everywhere that almost every head of every government institution has been changed. Either replaced by someone in the current government’s party or someone who knows someone up there.
And that is why people dont mind staying unemployed for years while their party is not in power because they know that the moment they come back into power, they’ll get their own share of the national cake.
At first I was very quick to judge these changes and then the very recent substitution happened where the Inspector General Police was replaced with a new one. The old one was brought into office four years ago when the former government was in power.
When this happened, I was kind of thrown off and wondered what exactly the president would even change the head of police for. And then my brother asked me that, if I ever rent a house and then I go and meet the old security man, will I still work with him or look for someone I trust. And this is not just any form of renting, I literally had to compete with the old owner before getting the house.
The latter part of what he said made me understand what was happening. The reason why every government bring their own heads of government agencies is because of mistrust and their own agenda. And normally instead of them to complete the projects they came to meet, they start news ones just at the end of the day, they can also say the did this particular project.
I find all of these very interesting. To me, this isn’t even about politics. It just tells a lot about the kind of people we have in power and the leaders we have.
