Crochet Top Design Gone Wrong

Hello everyone, I wanted to show you this top I’ve been working on which went wrong and the struggles I’ve been facing. If you remember, I’ve been working on a beach collection as part of my needle work goals for this year. And this particular top I wanted to make was inspired by the bouquet of flowers I made for my sister.

When I looked at the lamp with the flowers, I wanted to make a white top and then design it with the flowers. What I envisioned was really nice so I was happy to go about it. Another perk of the top was the fact I get to have my own bouquet of flowers. Although I’m not allergic to flowers, I’m not a fan of them either. So I also wanted to have crochet flowers in a wearable form.

I used the yarn leftover from the bouquet of roses and then made a number of rose petals with no sepals. To know how to make the roses, check out my previous post. It took me about a whole day to make the rose petals since they were about 16.

I then concentrated on the top. When I was beginning the top, I washed my hands to make sure the yarn doesn’t get dirty. One thing about working with white yarn is you’d have to wash your hands a lot just so they don’t get dirty. I began with the base stitch. I wasn’t having a measuring tape so I used a normal yarn for the measurement. I stretched the yarn very wide across length and crocheted to that length.

I then used double crochet to build on the top. I initially began with half double crochet but it wasn’t going as planned and that was why I switched to double crochet.

I crocheted about 70 rows of double crochet enough to go around my bust and also snatch my waist.

For the hands, I pulled my signature straps. I made one strap and then attached the one cross from the other side to meet it at the neck. I then attached the flowers which was a bit difficult because I didnt even know to coordinate the colors.

Everything looked okay until I was done with the top. The top looked different as I expected.

After bribing my model to put it on, it looked way different than I expected. The flowers made the top look too much for me.

And the only way to solve the problem was to either fill the spaces or make a new design. I’ve not decided on what to do yet but I’ll fix the problem. Let me know if you’d wear this top to the beach or if you even like it at all. I like it but I’m not so confident about the result. Thank you for your time.
