When I had the idea to finally put out an album it was because the concept for what I wanted to share required an album. It’s not because that’s what muscial artists do.
I don’t care all that much about followng a traditional path, mostly because I don’t find it interesting but also because I don’t think the risk makes the reward worth pursuing. Your chanses of “winning” are smaller and smaller and th competition is grrater and greater.
I find that following a traditional path is becoming more and more of a losing strategy in this world. Things are changing too fast for what worked even a year or two ago to work as well anymore.
I’ve also never expected to earn a living from my art because I wanted it to remain pure to my own vision and vibe as possible. So an album was not a priority for me.
But when an idea for an 8 song collection came and I realized it would need some cointainer, another 2-3 songs for thr flow, I set out to make an album.
Now this album is always on my mind and I can’t believe how much work it is!
I am starting nearly from scratch. Most of these songs were song ideas but I hadn’t arranged any of then into anything presentable and the lyrics need to fit a very specific concept. Recording will be the most challenging part and I am not even close to there yet.
After about 3 months, I’ve completely written and prepared only 3 songs to the point where I could share a demo or play them live (in fact two songs I have performed already).
I am currently working on the lyrics and finalizing a melody for songs 4 and 5. The concept and melody for each song is so strong that I want to pay full respect to them and not cut corners anywhere.
But at this rate it’ll be more than a year before I can shre everything in it’s final form.
A year is too long! Too much has changed and I need something that can repesent that change. My existing EP “Sun Shone Blue” was an homage to previous versions of myself and the story til now. It doesn’t represent the current version or energy of today. It was relased in 2025 but songs were written in 2008-2013 an it was recorded in 2019.
I need something that represents the energy of 2020 and onward that won’t take a year to make.
So I decided to put together a live EP, a combination of 5-6 old and new songs, all previously unreleased. I am not sure how much I will be able to polish it but I will consult a friend about it soon.
At first I was hoping to self record and self produce every aspect of my future releases but the more time and energy goes into just the writing process itself, the more I want to outsource the work that I have the least expertise in. It’s not about it NEEDING to be polished, its just that the songs feel too good to not give them the best treatment I can give them.
I’ve also got a list of videos i want to sharein the coming months. So just for my own reference and any other artists who like to look at other artists process this is my tentatir schedule
January/February
- finish basic structure and lyrics for songs #4 and #5
- Prepare songs 1-5 for live shows
- have a show in the end of February where I test them out.
- Plan and mix live EP
- new live music video
March
- Live EP release
- 2-3 more videos
- start tecording demos of songs 1-5
- work on songs 6 and 7
April - May
- Finish songs 6-9
- More shows
June/July
- Finish all 11 songs
- record fill demo and decide how to produce the album
And then hopefully by Fall I will be able to release it.
The timeline is likely to change, in al homesy I think this album could take almost 2 years if I go all out with it. I know I will be able to release something after a few months but I am not sure I will be satisfied with the result of my own home recordings.
Let’s see! In any case, i will keep growing and learning from this and new music is inevitable!
Here are clips from two tracks from the live EP and one from the old EP:
