Vila do Pinhão - Douro Vinhateiro / Riding Portugal

Pinhão, in the heart of the Douro, is one of those places that seems to have come out of a fairy tale book. The small village is surrounded by the steep green slopes of vineyards, which stretch as far as the eye can see, and the Douro River, with its calm waters, flows through the landscape, giving it a special touch of calm. Our visit to this enchanted place had a simple but charming objective: to see the almond trees in bloom.

O Pinhão, no coração do Douro, é um daqueles lugares que parece ter saído de um livro de contos de fadas. A pequena vila está rodeada pelas encostas verdes e íngremes das vinhas, que se estendem até onde o olhar alcança, e o rio Douro, com suas águas tranquilas, passa por entre a paisagem, dando-lhe um toque especial de calmaria. A nossa visita a este lugar encantado tinha um objetivo simples, mas cheio de encanto: ver as amendoeiras em flor.

It's early spring, and the almond trees are in full bloom. On each side of the road, we could see white and pink flowers opening in the sun. It was as if the Douro had dressed for the occasion, with its soft colors contrasting with the intense green of the vineyards. We walked slowly, breathing in the fresh air and the scent of the flowers.

É início de primavera, e as amendoeiras estão em pleno esplendor. De cada lado da estrada, podíamos ver as flores brancas e rosadas que se abriam ao sol. Era como se o Douro se tivesse vestido para a ocasião, com as suas cores suaves a contrastarem com o verde intenso das vinhas. Caminhamos devagar, respirando o ar fresco e o perfume das flores.

As we approached the riverbank, the atmosphere began to brighten. The sound of Carnival music could be heard, bringing a touch of celebration to the tranquility of the place. It was a cheerful melody, which contrasted with the calm rhythm of the landscape, but somehow fit perfectly with the relaxed spirit of Pinhão. From afar, we could see the boats arriving, bringing tourists who came, like us, in search of a little piece of the gaucho magic.

À medida que nos aproximávamos da margem do rio, o ambiente começava a ficar mais animado. O som da música de Carnaval fazia ouvir-se, trazendo um toque de festa à tranquilidade do lugar. Era uma melodia alegre, que contrastava com o ritmo calmo da paisagem, mas que, de alguma forma, se encaixava perfeitamente no espírito descontraído do Pinhão. De longe, podíamos ver os barcos a chegar, trazendo turistas que vinham, como nós, em busca de um pedacinho da magia do Douro.

We decided to take a break and sit by the water. It was the ideal time to relax and absorb all the beauty that surrounded us. The almond trees, as if wanting to attract our attention, displayed themselves in all their glory, and we could see the little ones running, playing among the trees and dancing to the sound of the music.

Decidimos fazer uma pausa e sentar-nos junto à água. Era o momento ideal para relaxar e absorver toda a beleza que nos rodeava. As amendoeiras, como se quisessem chamar a nossa atenção, exibia-se em toda a sua glória, e podíamos ver os pequenitos a correr, brincando entre as árvores e a dançar ao som da música.

After a coffee and a delicious spring-flavored ice cream, we continued our walk. We saw a large open gate, with a beautiful garden inviting us to enter. The place seemed to be a piece of tranquility and beauty, with colorful flowers, delicate statues and a photo-worthy setting. Without thinking twice, we went in and started taking some photos. The garden was impeccably manicured and the setting seemed perfect for a moment of relaxation.

Depois de um café e um belo gelado com sabor a Primavera continuamos o nosso passeio. Avistámos um grande portão aberta, com um lindo jardim a convidar-nos a entrar. O local parecia ser um pedaço de tranquilidade e beleza, com flores coloridas, estátuas delicadas e um cenário digno de fotografia. Sem pensar duas vezes, entramos e começámos a tirar algumas fotos. O jardim era impecavelmente bem cuidado e o ambiente parecia perfeito para um momento de pausa.

Only after a few minutes did we realize that we were in the garden of a hotel. A luxury hotel, to be more precise, which was not only known for its excellent hospitality, but also for its privileged location on the banks of the Douro. We felt a little embarrassed when we realized that we had invaded the space without even asking. There, amidst the greenery and flowers, we were invited to visit the hotel and, of course, admire yet another spectacular view of the river. However, we left :-) The relaxed and welcoming atmosphere at Pinhão made our experience once again unforgettable. This is a place where nature and culture meet, where laughter mixes with music and where even a small adventure like ours becomes a part of the charm of the place.

Só depois de alguns minutos é que nos apercebemos de que estávamos no jardim de um hotel. Um hotel de luxo, para ser mais preciso, que não só era conhecido pela sua excelente hospitalidade, como também pela sua localização privilegiada à beira do Douro. Sentimo-nos um pouco envergonhados ao percebermos que tínhamos invadido o espaço sem sequer perguntar. Ali, no meio do verde e das flores, fomos convidados a conhecer o hotel e, claro, a admirar mais uma vista espetacular sobre o rio. Contudo saímos :-)
O ambiente descontraído e acolhedor do Pinhão tornou a nossa experiência mais uma vez inesquecível. Este é um lugar onde a natureza e a cultura se encontram, onde o riso se mistura com a música e onde até uma pequena aventura como a nossa se torna uma parte do encanto do lugar.

The almond trees in bloom, the warmth of the sun shining on the river and the sound of music are yet another new memory. And, of course, we can't help but smile when we remember our "unscheduled" visit to the hotel, which, in some way, was part of the story of that unforgettable afternoon in the Douro.

As amendoeiras em flor, o calor do sol a brilhar sobre o rio e o som da música são mais uma nova memória. E, claro, não podemos deixar de sorrir ao recordar a nossa visita "não programada" ao hotel, que, de alguma forma, fez parte da história daquela tarde inesquecível no Douro.
