Playing The Long Dark is fun. When the game starts, death is already steps away, but you don't know how it will happen. Holding on a little longer and seeing how far you can go is the challenge in this great frozen world.
I started my game with very few things: a vest, some pants, and a coat that was barely useful. The shoes were really bad. Imagine having to survive in the snow with moccasins. But I also had some medicine and accelerant.
The area where it all started was near the town. This place has many resources. I'm still learning how to survive, so on normal difficulty and in an area with the same difficulty, I quickly found a church and found my first accessory.
Wearing a scarf makes a difference. Being less cold in this game will always save us a bit. I also found another pair of normal socks, which would do for now.
I quickly made my way to the town of Milton, where a beautiful house I already knew was waiting for me. This place is spacious, has plenty of wood, several closets for storage, and is in a good location. I found a moldy rabbit. It's not good for eating, as it's guaranteed to make you sick, but it might be good for trapping.
My first fire and my first weapon make a difference. Having the hunting knife means I can butcher animals faster. Lighting plenty of fires will make me more efficient as I progress. Staying warm helps me survive, as does having a roof over my head.
I wanted to go out in the morning, but a storm was hitting the area, so I stayed back inside until the weather calmed down a bit.
I went out for a walk, and on one of the trails, I found an old gas station with plenty of food, but nothing of much value for now.
I continued exploring the area and came across a farm. I'm never quite sure where this place is, but it's valuable because it has a workbench. It can't be dismantled without a saw, so if I want to make something, I have to come here.
To enter the farmhouse, you need a key. I checked all the cars and found it. Wolves are quite common in this area, and while it's not difficult, an attack this early would be a sure death.
Now I had a gun. Things wouldn't be so bad with the wolves. A firearm can give you meat if you use it well. Hunting wolves, rabbits, or deer is possible, but not without target practice.
The Paradise Farmhouse is more than cozy. I like this place. Forced to stay there because the afternoon had passed, I had to spend the night there. Another storm was approaching, and going out in the middle of it is like killing yourself in the cold. I still had little clothing. As I searched through the bedrooms and living spaces of the house, I found more bullets; luck was on my side.
With the clear, cloudless day, I left the farm for the time being. Perhaps I would return to that place and make it my home, but now it was time to move on.
A dead deer is a bad sign; the wolves are close and on the hunt. I didn't want to be their next victim.
I obtained meat, hide, and guts, but the meat wasn't necessary, so I left it. The dried hide would make leather for shoe repairs. The guts would be good for making a bow, but now they were more attractive to wolves.
I wandered far away, traversing the entire map I could. I passed several places with nothing but white landscape. A bow and a corpse gave me something new, but I didn't have any arrows, much less could I make them. I just took the bow and continued on my way.
Evening was beginning to fall. I was far away, without shelter, and the wolves kept reminding me of their presence, until I found an area that could be a temporary refuge.
Tired and cold, with no wood or way to make another fire, night was falling upon me.
I slept a little to recover, and on the longest and darkest night I'd ever experienced, I had to face the worst. The wolves knew where I was, and without fire to scare them away, my end seemed near.
With a flare gun, I was scaring them off, but I didn't have enough ammunition, so I also used some flares I had grabbed by chance.
The night began to lighten, and with my pistol in hand and seven precious bullets, I was able to make it through another day.
See you next time ❤️ Yowi.
