The courtyard of my house is special, if it rains it gets wet like the others. So says a nursery rhyme that I learned as a child with my little playmates. This weekend my backyard was visited by music and poetry. In addition to Cuban Creole food.
At the request of the group UNARSO (Union of Artists in Solidarity) we prepared a cultural activity in my house to meet all the members of this organization and also to exchange songs and poetry. A day that began at 3 o'clock in the morning putting a pig at random in the yard of the house, my particular cousin.
My family was in charge of preparing, among my coconut trees in the yard, fill a hole with charcoal to cook the meat very slowly on a grill. The sun had not yet risen and my patio was already illuminated. Inside the house, the rest of the meals, seasonings, sweets and refreshments were being prepared.
Around nine o'clock in the morning a bus appeared at the house loaded with artists to make my patio a cultural event. The embrace that had been kept for a long time became light and we all met there.
Luciano's guitar came down, Yaimara's wonderful voice, also Adelfa Velazquez and a Canadian boy, Oliver, who brought us the beautiful songs of the Beatles. And so the music and poetry began to sound and to enchant the neighbors who joined in the singing.
While the heat of the charcoal hoed the meat, cassava and rice congris were cooked, throats were also warming up and singing began.
Diverse themes of traditional Cuban troba, Pepe Sánchez, Manuel Corona, Sindo Garay, César Portillo de la Luz, Beny Moré, décimas and tonadas, guajiras, sones and poems. Mexican corridos and also the music of the Beatles delighted those present.
Many people were scattered around the courtyard in groups of like-minded people. Old chairs and reusable boards became improvised seats and tables. Some were singing, others were chatting and others were playing dominos.
In the living room of the house there were classes in musical interpretation, audience control and many other subjects.
In the back, the organizing team continued assisting the participants and preparing the food.
How beautiful my patio, what a familiar harmony for all, the green of the plants, the freshness of the breeze and the horizon drawn in the sky between hills and palm trees. Our joyful singing joined the birds and the butterflies of love visited us.

The time was flying by, the music left everyone thirsty and the next song was requested over and over again. When will we have that joy in my backyard again. The guitars and the verses of the songs still resound. Ecuador, Canada and Cuba joined to sing in my backyard. A landscape not to forget. For the next activity I invite you. Don't forget to read me.
