Today I want to show you a town in the Stara Planina Mountains located in Southeast Bulgaria - the town Sliven.
My husband and I took a walk around the city center early in the morning.
We passed by the Uzunova House, which is one of the three sites of the Dimitar Dobrovich Art Gallery.

The building is a cultural monument and houses a permanent exhibition of Western European graphics, while the ground floor of the building is used for temporary exhibitions.

We reached the Regional History Museum, which has a rich exhibition of artifacts, some of which are of world importance.

So early in the morning, there were almost no people in the center, but around us it was full of colorful, delicate violets, carefully arranged in the city alleys.

There was one place that I really wanted to visit and that was the place where the Old Elm is located - a centuries-old tree whose age is over 1100 years.

So we got there and I saw the tree which unfortunately did not look very good. According to Wikipedia:
The dying process that had begun became visible in 2014. The reason for the condition of the centuries-old tree is the Dutch disease trachyomycosis, which stops the movement of water in the stem and it dries up.

Care is taken for its conservation - the cavities are filled with reinforcing filler, there are holes left for natural ventilation.

The old elm is one of the symbols of Sliven and is present in the city's coat of arms.

Nearby is the central square and the municipality building. There were Christmas decorations here and a decorated Christmas tree nearby.

From afar, you can see the monument to Hadji Dimitar and the Sliven Revivalists.

Nearby is the Popska Garden, where we saw the "Bear" fountain, in the construction of which the sculptor Nikolay Sultanov participated.

Right behind it is the cathedral church "St. Dimitar", which is one of the oldest churches of the Sliven diocese.
In its current form, it was built in 1831. The church "St. Dimitar" is a three-nave basilica 31 meters long and 15 meters wide with an area of 461 square meters.
