Gex Trilogy Announced, Interesting Extras Available

Who remembers the 3DO console? Probably not many reading this. It was released a few years before the Sony PlayStation and Sega Saturn. The 3DO was also the first CD only based gaming console (Halcyon and LaserActive were both laser disc based). Being first doesn’t mean the best though. Anyhow, on the 3DO there were few actual “games” as console gamers understood them at the time. One that stood out was Gex by Crystal Dynamics, later part of Eidos and more companies due to mergers and buyouts. Well, Gex survived the failed 3DO console, dodged the Atari Jaguar and landed on the more popular platforms PlayStation, Saturn, and Nintendo 64 with at least one game (Sony won with 3 Gex games).

Transitioning From 2D to 3D

Gex is one of the few mascot based games to transition successfully from 2D to 3D. Just be lenient with how you compile success there.
I personally loved the first game, 2D, but could not get into the 3D sequels. Others were the opposite, they couldn’t understand the fun of 2D Gex. To each their own.
Fans can place pre-orders for Gex Trilogy, a remake compilation similar to the Tomb Raider sets, on… Oh man, okay, it is not that bad, I hope. Back to the article, Limited Run Games have picked up the rights to release this remake set. The pre-orders run from May 9th, 2025 to June 16th, 2025.
At least it is coming to Steam as we well as Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S consoles.

At Least There Are Interesting Bonuses

If you order the Standard Edition you are just getting the base game on your console of choice or on PC via Steam.
Bump that up to the Classic Edition then you get a steelbook, 12x16 inch double sided poster, a soundtrack CD and a retro styled box.
Go ahead and take a look at the most expensive option, the Tail Time Edition and you get a bit more.
A 36 inch tall inflatable Gex doll, 7 inch tall Gex statue, some Gex trading cards, a remote pin, a different soundtrack CD (you don’t get the one in the other sets for some reason) and a collector’s box with artwork by Yoshitaka Amano.
Who is grabbing this Gex Trilogy release? Considering modern consoles have lockout tech it is safe to assume we won’t see a repeat of the D for 3DO fiasco here.
