Hi Everyone,
During our stay at Mount Fuji, we wanted to go to places where tourists probably don’t go to avoid the crowds. One of them is Lake Motosuko. It is easiest to reach via car, public transport is virtually hard to get to this beautiful site. Lake Motosuko (本栖湖) is in the Fuji Five Lakes (富士五湖, Fuji-goko) area which is famous for its clear waters and most importantly, virtually no tourists around.
Driving up the windy roads from our glamping site, we finally arrived. Does it look familiar to you? It’s the mountain on the 1000 yen note in Japan. Seeing it in person was even more breathtaking, especially on the clear day when we visited. The view was just stunning, especially seeing Mount Fuji so clear with only us enjoying this view with the sound of the water.
We noticed on our drive there it is a popular place for camping, fishing and kayaking. We also saw signs of fishing spots and various hikes. There was only one store & accommodation combined building at the entrance of the beach down from the mountain. Inside, we could see lots of camping supplies and noticed that a few anime scenes were based on this location.
The best time to go is on a clear sunny day so you can see Mount Fuji. There is no shelter so rainy weather won’t be a great choice of time. A car is essential in our opinion and if you want to go camping here, it is best to buy all your food and supplies in the city as the little store has limited supplies from what we could see. Though it was very remote, it had perfect internet access which was a plus. Such a nice beautiful place and being able to see the actual view on the 1000 yen note in person was amazing!
