Welcome back to the People’s Guild.

We’re back with another episode of TPG, and this time we’re joined by @ourfadedglory — better known to many as OFG — for a wide-ranging, boots-on-the-ground conversation about land, strategy, streaming and where Splinterlands is headed next.

From his early days discovering the game in 2020 to navigating land economics, wildcard strategies, Modern vs. Wild dynamics and the ever-evolving reward system, OFG brings a thoughtful, player-first perspective shaped by real experimentation and long-term commitment. We dig into pack strategy, voucher distribution, new rule sets like Outsider and ideas that could meaningfully improve the experience for smaller accounts.

It’s equal parts meta talk, economic theory, and community vibes — the kind of episode that reminds you why this ecosystem is still so compelling.

Enjoy the show!

OFGPlays’ Splinterlands Journey

This episode centered on OFGPlays’ journey with Splinterlands, which began in December 2020 after discovering the game through a Level Up Life stream. He shared how he stepped away for a period to manage personal finances before returning around the time land hit 1.75, eventually launching an eBay side hustle alongside his gameplay. The discussion explored his land holdings — including his Keep in Track 6 of Central Fire — and reflected on how both the land economy and the broader game have evolved since his early involvement.

Community Land Strategies

OFGPlays recounted purchasing a Keep after public criticism of its price inadvertently drove it up, nearly doubling the cost. The episode highlighted the value of community contributors who provide tools, services, and content, with appreciation expressed for Gathering’s work. The conversation shifted into land card strategies, with OFGPlays focusing on grain plots and Beta cards, while FatJimmy and Bjangles reflected on their own Beta and Untamed holdings. Concerns were raised about how future Survival brackets could influence land-based strategies.

Land Gameplay & Community Updates

The trio discussed evolving land gameplay mechanics, optimization strategies, and the importance of managing cooldown systems carefully. There was praise for the team’s willingness to experiment and iterate, including recent cosmetic releases and broader community engagement efforts. The episode also touched on the implementation of an SPS buyback for the DAO with escalation mechanics.

Pre-Sale Momentum & Ability Design

With nearly 140K packs sold and only a small remainder available, the episode examined ideas around locking or retiring abilities by set to prevent ability bloat. FatJimmy supported the concept as a way to introduce 10–15 new abilities without overwhelming players. Seasonal rule sets like Bloodlust were highlighted as successful experiments, alongside the ongoing challenge of balancing innovation with accessibility.

Modern’s “Outsider” Rule

The new Modern “Outsider” rule set — allowing one Wild monster per lineup — sparked discussion about its impact on older cards and deck-building flexibility. Chaos Legion’s strength in Wild was praised for its balance and variety. OFGPlays also shared the unfortunate loss of his YouTube channel due to unexplained spam allegations, emphasizing the importance of backing up content across platforms.

Tech Platforms & Multi-Streaming

The episode briefly expanded into broader tech conversations, including the need for competition against major platforms. OFGPlays discussed streaming to multiple outlets to maximize exposure and detailed his successful $70 account experiment, which has maintained value despite broader market downturns. Mobile gameplay convenience was also highlighted as a key advantage for daily engagement.

Wildcard Strategy & Resource Management

The group analyzed wildcard strategy, bloodline interactions, and the use of analytics platforms like SplinterHub. OFGPlays outlined his “card-buying factory” approach to support DEC accumulation and Modern competitiveness. They also noted the limitations bots face when adapting to new cards without sufficient historical data, referencing cards like Dulgrous and Hanvi in the shifting meta landscape.

Meta Shifts & Community Engagement

New corrupted healing mechanics and bloodline pact interactions were examined, alongside the prevalence of weapons training cards in Silver leagues. The limited number of non-attacker cards in the current meta was discussed. The hosts also acknowledged the team’s outreach efforts in sharing card previews and information with streamers.

Reward Card Release Strategy

The episode explored a gradual reward card release model instead of large drops, potentially aligned with specific factions like HanV summoners. Ideas included allowing players to pledge allegiance for focused reward distribution, driving strategic meta shifts and scroll value. Limited-time cosmetics and exemplar builds were discussed, with suggestions that smaller accounts may need extended access windows.

Seasonal Glint Buffer Proposal

A proposed two-day buffer period following seasonal payouts would allow players additional time to spend Glint on cosmetics before rotations. The idea was positioned as particularly helpful for smaller accounts accumulating rewards more slowly.

Streamer Engagement & Feature Ideas

Suggestions included in-game notifications for whitelisted streamers, banner integrations, and Glint rewards for viewers. New mini-games from iBlast were mentioned, alongside discussion of upcoming Arcane draws and the comparative value of vouchers versus fortune tickets.

Voucher Distribution & Mini-Set Timing

Bjangles confirmed that 10 voucher cards per year are planned, though final distribution details remain pending. The hosts discussed the limited production window remaining for the current set and the timing of the mini-set relative to the main set’s close. They reflected on how maintaining starter packs while rotating regular sets has created a healthier, more balanced economy.

Pack Strategy & Future Brackets

The episode concluded with ideas for a $2 regular foil gameplay-focused pack, preserving starter packs for onboarding, and introducing a bracket allowing Foundation and reward cards together. OFGPlays closed by expressing gratitude for the community’s support and celebrating the success of his “flip it and ship it” stream segment, inspired by earlier TPG discussions.
