a nice visit to Haskell Gardens
With the nice days, plus add it still being cooler than I would like to go out for early morning walks, and perhaps my wife feeling sorry for me after being stuck in Hospital for a fw days, I have headed out for a few day time walks this week when the weather was nice, one of them was to a spot I like to call the hidden Jewel in the city, because it seems to not be tht well known to people here, and of course Buttonwood park is bigger and known as the Jewel of the city.
A little bit about the gardens
The late Allen C. Haskell, a lifelong New Bedford resident and famed horticulturist, assembled these six acres—the site of a traditional New England-style common, beautiful historic gardens, and one of the oldest homes in the city—over more than 30 years. Today, it’s a public park and an unlikely botanical respite, blooming in the heart of New Bedford.
Its is now managed by a group called the Trustees who manage a few parks and sights in the area.
For those who have seen my posts from here, you will know I love the colorful greenhouse here, well as I saw on this visit the Greenhouses are pretty deteriorated and they are now taking them down, nd the sign says something about reimagining the space, I will be very interested to see what they come up with, but will miss the greenhouse.
