Ralph“Why will the humans keep killing us one by each? What have we done to them and to what extent would they keep killing us?” The chief of the mice came out after calling a meeting of the mice family, excluding rats.
In their gathering, they had to bury one of them that was killed by the humans. They were so much that they can be able to gang up to fight humans.
As they were carrying out their meeting, the humans were also carrying out their meeting. “The mice have eaten all my crops, both my corn farmland and the yam farmland. I don't know if I'm the only one affected", Wike raised an alarm in a meeting he called. He gathered the whole community members just to devise a means to capture the mice. Everyone in the community that owns one or more farmlands came to attend the meeting. They deliberated on a way forward just against the mice.
“We need to set some traps for them or better still, I will produce a mice gum that can be placed on the four corners of our lands just to capture the mice that dare trend into our lands”, Ojukwu raised a point while standing and talking in anger.
Some community members, both the men and women who borrowed money from the bank for farming, were lamenting about loosing all their farm produce to mice.
Everyone in the meeting bought the idea of Ojukwu and contributed some sum of money just to buy those items needed.
Meanwhile, the mice had gathered and spoke elaborately on the majority of their members been slaughtered by the humans.
“I even experience one human who slaughtered one of us and used as meal. How can we remain without taking a revenge to avenge our members?” The mice leader spoke angrily.
"Maybe we should go in mass to one particular farmland just to invade the land. We will finish every of their farm produce ", One of the mice spoke.
Almost everyone agreed, but their leader disagrees with those words. “I think we are much. So, we just needed to share ourselves into groups to each of the farmlands”, their leader said. Few members agreed, but then the majority agreed with the first speaker. So they all followed the first speaker's voice and the leader had no choice other than to follow the majority's voice.
One night, Ojukwu had prepared the gum and traps and placed them in the four corners of the farmlands in one part of the community where the mice had invaded some time ago.
That night, the mice changed their direction to three areas which were not the direction of the first part they had gone to initially. They invaded the farmlands and almost all the farm produce including their yams, maize and other crops.
The community members who had farmlands in that direction lamented after seeing what the mice had done to them.
“Ojukwu will pay for what he had done. He's the cause of what had happened here today”, one of the villagers said in anger.
“Why will he leave this side for the second phase of our community? He should have used the charm for all the parts of the farmlands”, another one raised an alarm.
The news of the invasion got to Wike who is the eldest in the community. He called another meeting as they all devised another method, although still the similar method but this time to every part of the community farmlands.
The mice gathered again as they called for a party for a successful invasion. It was a great party as none of them lost their lives.
They planned for a second phase of the invasion. The mice had sent in a spy just to listen to what the humans were planning. As the spy came back, it gave the others the tactics the humans wanted to use. They all planned and made another attack. They warned themselves to always jump over the trap the humans have set awaiting them.
“Always jump over the trap or anything they had sat awaiting us”, the leader of the mice ordered.
They left and were jumping over the traps and charms the humans had set awaiting their arrival. They ate nearly every of the humans farm produce and escaped.
The farmers got to their farms happily thinking they will meet the mice dead, but to their surprise, their farm produce was invaded again.
This was when they all concluded that the way out was to appeal to the mice just to let them be. This was what they did and some days later, the mice called for a meeting.
“I think we would have to forgive them for what they had done and eat their farm produce little by little. We should not make them lament”, the mice leader voiced out. They all agreed to the words and after a few weeks, the humans were free and were happy.
