I came downhill one afternoon
After school was over and done;
Alone, listening to sunbirds tune,
For then my few friends were all gone.
And suddenly my eyes came to meet
A beautiful butterfly in the air;
Little above the lilies at the palm's feet
Twerling and dancing gleeful and dear.
And o marvelled I, at such a fly,
Of wings too great an art of nature.
Radiant as she flew yet not so high,
But close by the lilies to perch and nurture.
Friends nor homework I remembered none
But if I could sword this bond apart
That keeps thou butterfly ever to lilies borne
With hope I'll cry: perch thou on my heart!
