On day two of Splinterfest, Creative Director Nate Aguila, his Creative Team, and audience members dove into the Coming Rebellion and the lore, style, and concepts behind the next card set for Splinterlands.
Just like the Visions of the future Panel, some of these ideas are potential future concepts rather than on an official roadmap.
So, without further adieu, let's get to it, shall we?
After dispensing with the formalities, our Art Lead, Mati, popped in to wax philosophical on the evolution of our card art style, as well as what players can expect to see in the future.
But fear not! If you weren't there to hear his pitch or want to hear it again (or maybe you just want to stare dreamily into his eyes), hit play on the video below.
Next up, the Narrative Team dove into some of the characters planned for Rebellion.
Life is hard when you live under the merciless heel of a totalitarian empire that couldn't give two spits about you and yours. It gets even harder when you look to the horizon and see a bunch of oversized flailing tentacles, reminding you that the bad guys have a dark god in their corner.
From the Kha'zi and Silverblade to Croire and Nomos—and let's not forget poor, misunderstood Executioner Kraan—everyone has it pretty rough now that the Chaos Legion is running the show.
However, all hope is not yet lost. With the arrival of the Riftwatchers, a spark has been struck. Soon, the fires of Rebellion will sweep across the land.
See how it kindles in the lore below.
Next, the Creative Team took a trip down memory lane, reminiscing about the frames for previous card sets. Then, we came off the top rope and dropped some sick alpha, revealing the card frames for Rebellion!
Not content with next-level artwork, design, and lore, the Creative Team has also been hard at work animating the characters on all your favorite cards. That's right; you'll see them breathe with life as they swing their swords and fling their spells.
Here's a peek at what the future has in store.
The Creative Team is also exploring concepts for a comic book based in the Splinterverse, and we gave a little taste of what we're planning.
Last but not most definitely not least, Creative Director Nate Aguila dropped this bombshell: the Splinterlands Team has been in talks with none other than Todd McFarlane to bring Spawn into the Splinterverse. What?! No joke.
Check out some of the concepts and ideas below. What do you think? Nate invited the audience members at Splinterfest to be honorary members of the Creative Team, so let's keep it going; how would you introduce him into our world, and what part would he play?
Let us know in the comments below!
Stay tuned for more updates from the Splinterlands!
