How many of you said "Practice makes Perfect?" I used to think that, but then a very wise music teacher corrected me one day. I was a preteen at my weekly violin lesson, and my teacher asked me, "Ho w do you get to Carnegie Hall?" My reply, of course was, "Practice, Practice, Practice" Then, being the smarty I was, added, "Practice makes Perfect!"

My astute teacher immediately corrected me and said, "no - Practice makes Permanent." He went on to explain that if you want to be a really good musician, you have to practice correctly and work on improving every day. If you have a sloppy practice, or settle to stay the same, all the practice in the world will never make you perfect.

Since that eye opening day, I have applied that reasoning to every area of my life. In my previous career, I wanted to be the best so I worked hard to learn and practice the correct way to do my job, improve my job skills, and be recognized as an expert in my field. The hard work and diligence paid off.

In my personal life, I wanted to be able to be the best mom I could be, so I learned what I could from other moms, read books, took classes, prayed a lot, and through the grace of God, I have two wonderful grown sons. In my spiritual life, I found like minded people from whom I could learn, and people who would challenge me to be the best I could be, and challenge me to pursue the truth. In all areas of my life, I practiced positivity. This was the common thread that kept me grounded, helped me see the best in all circumstances.

What are you practicing today?
