Let Me Tell You A Story
Do you remember the story of Adam and Eve? Let me refresh your memory.
God gave them permission to eat anything, literally anything at all in the Garden Of Eden except for one fruit, He called it the forbidden fruit.
What later happened?
After couple of hours or days as it may be, that was the only fruit that they desired to eat and eventually ate it.
What Am I Trying To Say?
No one wants to be controlled... No one wants to be limited or confined in a particular space with the "don'ts". That's why humans will always tend to do those things they are told not to do just to see what will happen.
Once in a while, It happens to me, it happens to you also.
Now back to our topic, Increasing taxes on the unhealthy items, like the alcohols, the cigarettes and others solves no problem honestly but rather creates many...
Have you heard of the word craving? Or addiction?
Craving could be defined as the insatiable urge, an overwhelming urge for a particular substance that is often difficult to resist.
Addiction on its own could mean a condition where someone loses control over the use of substance despite the harmful consequences. There is the feeling of dependence that the person feels unable to function normally without it.
The person keeps looking for it and if he can't get it, looks for a similar alternative that suits same purpose as the one he was looking for.
Now Get This Point, People Crave and Are Addicted To these products!!
That is to say that, placing these exorbitant taxes or perhaps Sin Taxes, lol on those products will only lead to increase in crime rates and nothing else.
People will look for alternatives, people will open unlicensed breweries and unapproved companies; Fake products will be on the increase and people will die from consumption of those products because when they can't afford the ideal products because of the prices, they will opt in for a product with similar effect even when the product isn't licensed
So, have we really curtailed the consumption of these products or have we ended up doing population control? Lol
Alternatively, why don't we go for Massive Education with pictorial clarification on the impacts of these products.
From a doctor's perspective, It's never a crime to take alcohol nor take sugars, but the problem comes when you take them in excess.
Educating the masses, ringing the awareness bell inside their eardrums on a daily basis will help people know the pros and cons of whatever action they want to take.
Why don't we use our social medias? Spread these news till the ends of earth to make sure that even the grandmas deep in the rural areas hears the message.
In summary, You really can't stop anyone from doing what they want to do. But what you can do is ensure they have all the information and knowledge at their disposal because I honestly don't think exorbitant taxes are the right solution.
Thank you for reading and have a nice day ahead 👍
