It's been a while since I submitted an entry for the contest. I have been looking through some cards for a week now but none of them really caught my attention. I usually search through references and the cards to see a potential artwork coming out of it and it was a struggle to find a cool pose until I found this one. Sorriel's physique is a bit leaner compared to the monsters's reference however I loved the pose and I saw that it's gonna work really well on this card. As you guys know I have a weakness to glow art and this guy is surrounded by flames so yeah I had to choose him haha. Anyway, this is how it turned out :)

Tip: when you paint fire based characters with flame head or something similar, you can just use that flame layer, duplicate it and move it to different parts of the body instead of repainting the whole thing again. To make it look a bit different just draw on top of it and you are done.
*I used the flame head layer on both hands and background with some adjustments, repainted on top and added blur to create the end result. The whole point of digital art is to get work done quickly. It's definitely better than using premade background don't your think?
I added the second last wip shot to show you guys that inorder to make a quick background sometimes you can just use the same character itself. Transform it however you want to fit your character so take advantage of the layers, paint faster, save time and use that time for details where it matters the most ;)*
