Hey there, community! It’s so good to have you back. Today, I really need to vent and share with you how it felt to witness the end of a show that didn't just hook me, but literally grew up with me: Stranger Things.

Even though the Duffer Brothers have officially called it a wrap, the world is still buzzing with fan theories, and honestly, I’m right there with them. Here’s a look at how I spent my December 31st, surrounded by friends and a heavy dose of the Upside Down!

¡Hola, comunidad! Qué alegría tenerlos por aquí de nuevo. Hoy necesito desahogarme y compartir con ustedes cómo viví el cierre de una serie que no solo me atrapó, sino que me acompañó durante años: Stranger Things.

Aunque los hermanos Duffer ya pusieron el punto final, el mundo sigue vibrando con teorías conspirativas, y yo no soy la excepción. ¡Aquí les cuento cómo fue mi 31 de diciembre rodeada de amigos y del Upside Down!

Saying goodbye in the perfect spot

While the rest of the world was busy celebrating New Year’s Eve, my mind was somewhere else entirely (specifically, in another dimension). My anxiety for the final episode was through the roof! To make it a night to remember, we got together at my dear friend David’s place, and he basically turned his living room into a full-on set from the show.

He had everything: themed decor, banners, snacks, and even personalized movie tickets. Seeing the effort he put into every single detail made the hype reach a whole new level. We were ready to witness the end of a decade-long story; we watched these kids grow up on screen, and now it was time to say goodbye.

‎Mientras el mundo celebraba el Año Nuevo, mi mente estaba en otro lugar (y en otra dimensión). La ansiedad por ver el episodio final era total. Para hacerlo inolvidable, nos reunimos en casa de mi gran amigo David, quien transformó su sala en un verdadero set de la serie.

‎Había de todo, desde decoración temática, pancartas, hasta snacks y hasta entradas de cine personalizadas. Ver el esfuerzo que puso en cada detalle hizo que la expectativa subiera al máximo. Estábamos listos para presenciar el fin de una década de historia; vimos a esos niños crecer en pantalla y ahora nos tocaba decir adiós.

An emotional rollercoaster: A perfect ending or just a happy one?

The episode was a total whirlwind. I cried, laughed, and gasped along with my friends. There were moments where my heart was literally pounding out of my chest. I genuinely enjoyed it, but once the credits rolled, I was left with a strange feeling: everything went a bit too well.

Seeing Steve safe, Max recovering and getting back on her skateboard, and the whole gang united to defeat the Mind Flayer and Vecna was definitely satisfying. Even Joyce’s closure felt like a well-deserved payback for everything they’ve been through. But don’t you find it a bit unsettling that, with Vecna being the most feared and dangerous villain yet, everything ended so... flawlessly?

Montaña rusa de emociones: ¿Final perfecto o final feliz?
‎El episodio fue un torbellino. Junto a mis amigos lloré, reí y me sorprendí. Hubo momentos donde el corazón se me salía del pecho. Genuinamente lo disfruté, pero al terminar, me quedó una sensación extraña: todo salió demasiado bien.

‎Ver a Steve a salvo, a Max recuperada volviendo a su patineta, y al grupo unido derrotando al Desollamentes y a Vecna, fue satisfactorio. Incluso el cierre de Joyce se sintió como una venganza justa por tanto sufrimiento que vivió cada uno. Pero, ¿no les parece inquietante que siendo Vecna el villano más temido y peligroso, todo termine de forma tan... impecable?

The "plot armor" issue

Of course, losing Eleven was a low blow, even if it was a necessary sacrifice to end the cycle of experiments. However, I’m having a hard time accepting a finale that feels almost too good to be true. Maybe my brain is just wired to expect the worst when it comes to Hawkins.

To better explain what I mean, I’ll quote the Mexican creator Javier Ibarreche, who hit the nail on the head in his review:
"When characters have plot armor, there’s no risk; without risk, there’s no surprise, and without surprise, you lose interest."

That’s exactly my point. There were so many life-or-death situations where the script chose to save everyone over and over again. That lack of real stakes took away some of the weight from the massive danger they were facing.

El "Blindaje de Guión"
‎Claro, perder a Once fue un golpe bajo, aunque necesario para cerrar el ciclo de los experimentos. Sin embargo, me cuesta aceptar un final tan perfecto para ser verdad. Quizás mi mente está acostumbrada a esperar lo peor en Hawkins.

‎Para explicar mejor lo que siento, cito al creador Javier Ibarreche, quien dio en el clavo en su reseña:
‎"Cuando los personajes están blindados por el guion, no hay riesgo; sin riesgo, no hay sorpresa, y sin sorpresa se pierde el interés".
‎
‎Esa es exactamente mi duda. Hubo muchas situaciones donde la muerte acechaba, pero el guion decidió salvarlos a todos una y otra vez. Esa falta de riesgo real le quitó un poco de peso a la magnitud del peligro que enfrentaban.

An epic conclusion despite the loose ends

Don’t get me wrong, I loved it. It was epic and it hit me right in the feels. Beyond the plot holes or the little details my friends and I picked up on, we were given a unique moment to share and close this chapter together. The Duffer Brothers created something historic, and no one can take away from them.

Un cierre épico a pesar de los cabos sueltos
‎No me malentiendan, me encantó. Fue épico y movió cada una de mis fibras sentimentales. Más allá de los agujeros de guion o los detalles que notamos con mis amigos, nos regalaron un momento único para compartir y cerrar este ciclo juntos. Los hermanos Duffer crearon algo histórico y eso no se los quita nadie.
